Everyone I am not new to the forum just absent for a while. My handle was Professor. Glad to be back. My question is one I have had forever. How can the dice seem to fly level to the table, fly tight together, hit the table flat, hit the wall softly and come back within 5" of the wall be come up a 6/1. What is wrong with the mechanics of the shot to cause that. Thanks to all who answer.

Even with a "perfect" shot, it is possible for the back wall to cause the shot to be off. If they hit the pyramids in the wrong place it is possible for the pyramids to alter the shot enough for this to happen. That is one way the situation you are describing could happen.

I agree with Skinny, the pyramids will influence the end result. When everything is done properly and the end result is the dreaded big red the pyramids have done their job. It happens and we can not do anything about it other than keep playing and wait for the next hand, because when we do everything properly the odds will move to our side.

You have almost zero control over the dice once they come into contact with the pyramids. To be perfectly honest, you have zero control or influence on them once they’ve left your hand. The truest, most perfect throw cannot survive contact with the tables "Randomizes". I just hope for the least amount on negative effect possible. 6/1 is the worst case result, and then there is what I heard Frank term the good sevens once 5/2 and 4/3. A seven by any other name, not good.

Have you taken any classes if not how do you know that you are making the proper shot.

First we should look at the set you are using. Assuming that you have the 6-1, 6-1 axis using the hard ways then you are likely getting a perfect split off of the pyramids. Or you may be getting a slight off parallel hit which is producing a roll over coming off the pyramids caused by a slight angle in your wrist upon release.

Yes Brothelman I have taken the class. And RichardM I do use the hardway set but how can one not have a slight tilt one way or the other. I am not a machine like the golf machine that hits the ball the same way every time. I think you hit it on the nose with the slant of the shot but I am not sure I can be that perfect everytime which therefore leaves me open to the 6/1. I am sure your shot is level just by the way you answered the query, so tell me how you do it. I know practice, practice, practice as Mr. Finesse says and I do– everyday throwing hundreds of shots. I get enough of the "good sevens" but it is th 6/1 that burns me up the most since I think something must be wrong with my mechanics that is causing that number to come up. Thanks to you and Brothelman for answering my message. "Professor"

Professor, I hate to say it but every time I throw a 6/1 I am sure it was something I did (wrong) and not the table. And there have been times I can consistently throw them. It seems like it has been when I haven’t thrown recently – within a few days or when I am tired. I not sure about your problem but mine is due to not getting far enough over the dice or not throwing with a good follow through which causes my knuckles to not be square to the back back wall. Dice rotate, stay together but travel through space on their way to the landing spot slightly off square to the back wall, hit the pyramids slightly off square – they hit and roll over typically slightly to the left of where center is. it aggravates me so much that at times I have briefly contemplated practicing it, hopping the sevens and becoming a don’t bettor then I come to my senses and re-group.
Look forward to your’s and other’s comment.
Good Luck, would like to roll with you again.

A tune up might just fix your little imperfection.
Without someone with knowledge looking at your throw it is very hard to pin point the little issues that might be wrong.
The longer you Waite to get the tune up the more chances you have of making the little imperfection a permanent habit

Thanks Richard for your help. That was really great advice. I will certainly look at what you are telling me right now. Just curious, you said would like to roll with me again. When did I roll with you. Am I missing something. Thanks again

LouisR I was thinking you were the "Professor" I rolled with at one of the practice sessions in Pasadena?
I live in the Claremont, CA area.

One more quick comment regarding your wrist angle upon release and follow through.
One of the things I try to remember after a short back swing is to pull my hand and wrist as one solid unit verses a swing and a push through the arc, release and follow through. Think a got this from my team leader/coach instructor at the last refresher I took in Vegas.
Just a thought Hope it helps.

I just went back to look at what 7s I had on my practice rolls .Total rolls 420 sessions with 4/3 152 5/2 141 and the 6/1 127 .
If some one can tell me how to get those 3/4 and 5/2 turned into box numbers I would be happy .
It was a total of 3616 rolls .There were a lot more 7s so my SRR is not that good but just wanted to see what the difference was between them .
I did have one session that I threw 5 6/1 outs which was different . That was a bad day .
Good Rolling. 🙂 🙂

420 sevens out of 3,616 rolls is great. That is an SRR of 8.6 which is a terrific SRR. Random would be 603 sevens and you only had 420!!!

Professor,we will add our 2 cents worth. All of the comments above are correct. Assuming it happens infrequently it is the pyramids doing their job. It will happen.
We do recommend some "continuing education"with a tune up—Finesse will find any flaws, Elite Video–NNF and Billy the Kid are the best or highly recommended a Refresher Course where you will get the benefit of many instructors. When we are mentors in a class, as we take our group of students from instructor to instructor we get the benefit of what they are taught–just like taking a refresher course.
Remember golfers on the PGA all have swing coaches, short game coaches, sports psychologists, etc. We are no different.

i was professor when I was on the site at one time. Frank and Dom gave me that handle at the class competition. I used it for about a year then went off site due to finances and now have returned but do not know how to change the LouisR to be Professor. Do you know how? Thanks Finisher
