For me, it’s always exciting to discover a new band that plays really good music.
I am the arbiter of "good music" after all… Lol! 😆
Today, while enjoying my morning coffee and channel surfing, I stumbled upon the band Grace Potter and The Nocturnals. (Guitar Center Sessions, DirecTV AudHD channel 334)
What initially caught my ear was hearing Grace Potter cite Little Feat and Scorcese’s The Last Waltz as major influences and inspirations for the group’s music.
All I can say is… Wow!
Certainly not for everyone. But if you appreciate, as I do, the "guitar, bass, drums, vocals" lineup of raw, minimally processed rock, you’ll love this incredibly talented band.
Grace Potter and The Nocturnals originally hail from Vermont, and are (at least in my opinion) a breath of fresh air given today’s… ahem… "music."
It doesn’t hurt that the vocalist / frontwoman Grace Potter is brilliant and articulate. She also has the best set of legs I’ve seen in a while… 😉
By the way, the largely unheralded group Little Feat were a seminal band in the late 60’s and throughout the 1970’s, until the death of their frontman and musical leader, Lowell George.
Sometimes referred to as "a musician’s band," because of their influential talent and innovation, Little Feat reemerged some years later with more great music. They still continue to tour…
And, The Last Waltz is a mid-80’s film by Martin Scorcese. It documents the final performance of the group The Band. The film includes performances by Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton, Neil Young, and the great bluesman Muddy Waters, among others. Those "in the know" will recall that Levon Helm, The Band’s drummer and vocalist, passed away only recently… 😥
So… Grace Potter and The Nocturnals… Just a great band…
Check them out!
