Craps Tournament in Laughlin

Spread the love

FYI I just got my latest promotion mailer from the Tropicana in Laughlin and they are having a Craps Tournament Jan 10-12. Registration the morning of the 10th and play on the 11th and 12th. $99 entry fee. Reservations at 800-343-4533 Promo code T-3029. $5000 price money.

I will be returning from Los Cruces on the 10th and will not be able to make it. I would just once like to play in on of these crazy events just to see how it works.

They’re ok as long as there is no rebuy allowed in the tourney.

Have played in a couple over the years. You pretty much have to throw out anything you have learned in GTC. Here is the reason–craps tournaments are played in the short run—the very short run. There are usually 2 or 3 sessions of 30 rolls each–that’s it. Each participant will be given $1000 of non value chips for each session. When you sign up you will be given "a spot" at the table–usually assigned a number of 1 to 16. The number 1 is SL1 with the other 15 numbers going around the table to SR1 for person #16. The SF1 person will start the rolling. He rolls until he has a 7 out. Then person #2 will roll until his 7 out. This will continue until there has been a combined total of 30 rolls of the dice. Then play stops, chips on the table are returned, and chips counted by casino staff. One person can roll all 30 or it can be multiple rollers–usually less than 5 people will roll. Unless your number is 1,2, or 3, you probably won’t touch the dice, so no GTC advantage here.

Both tournaments I have played in–there was no cost and you got free rooms to boot. The first one I came in 5th or 6th–I can’t remember but won $1000. Total luck as I had no idea what I was doing. The second I was out of chips at about roll 20–a lot of point 7 outs. I never touched the dice in either tournament. In both tournaments I do remember that on the last roll of both tournaments a couple of player made large prop bets–such as a hard way hopping or betting the 12–and they hit and they won enough to place—one player even won the tournament with this bet.

I only play in gambling tournaments—whether they are video poker, slot, blackjack, or craps–if I get free or cheap rooms and/or no entry fee or some combination AND I am going to be there anyway. Sometimes if my schedule is such, I may miss a session in the tournament and of course I don’t win anything. If I plan to hit Vegas or another gambling venue at a certain time and there is a tournament anyway I will enter simply to keep my costs down.

They can be fun as you interact with the other players–so if you will be there anyway it might be worth entering.

I have seen players do some really odd betting such as betting the don’t pass for the entire $1000 on the first roll. If the shooter makes his point, the don’t player is out. If the shooter has a 7 out without making his point, the don’t player is up $1000. He will keep parlaying his bet in hopes of a big win. Have never seen one don’t player make it past the 2nd shooter.

Basically I don’t find tournaments worth the time and money (if you have a buy in) as I can make more money playing regular craps with GTC principles sand blackjack using speed count.

Just a few comments. Alligator Rose and I hope to meet you in the casino soon.

The tournaments that I played in you pick a card to see you is first roller . Then it goes around like a normal game does . I never got to roll the dice in the 4 or 5 that I was in.Almost once when 7 rolled but the number of rolls ran out before it got to me .
They are a lot of fun .
I meet 4 guys that played the opposite of each other in hopes that no matter which way the table was going they would have a chance . One did make to final table.
Will be there for new year so will not do tournament . But thanks for info .

It’s important in these tournaments is to play against the players at the table.. not the house. When I won the Hilton, the betting was a crucial part of winning,, just like in live money games.

the last three times i was at the trop in Laughlin they would not let me throw
the dice because i set them

threw once

Did it happen???

Posted by: the gman on January 21, 2014, 3:14 am

exactly

Last spring Sue and i were to Laughlin and i was heading to the trop, last fall
i was hassled some playing but not to bad. Then this spring i got the dice, there
were three other people on the table.

There was a guy to the left, a guy and his girl friend making out on the right hand hook
and a girl all covered with tatoo’s on the end.

My first roll was a point 7, guy end shot and nothing, other guy was making out
without girl friend and would throw when he was not busy and then girl with tatoo’s
threw so hard every other shot was off the table.then me, and i had a 3 or 4 and it went
around again. third time i got the dice i got two points and on third i hit a hard 8 and
came back with it and pit boss leaned over and said…no you cant throw like that.
I said what do you mean, he said you know what i mean… well i did not know because
i did not throw any different than i had been. So i hit another point and he learned over
again and was very snippy and said not like that. i want the dice harder, so i threw a little
harder and get worse, so i just colored up and left.

Couple of month later i went there and all was good and got the dice and the same guy
came over and would not even let me throw. I said why not he said you dice dicesetters
are all the same , screw around with the dice and are slow and on and on. I dont screw
around with the dice and i am not slow. I told him that nicely and he said we cant have
all of you slowing the game down. at the time i was the only guy at the table, so i nicely asked
who else i was slowing down, and the guy lost it.

So that is the story

The funny thing was i was talking to the assistant pit boss before i got to the table and said i
do set the dice, explained what had happened before and just want to play and not cause
any problems. She said she had no problem with that and walked over to the table with me
and he would not even let her say a word.

that is exactly what happened

You just need some body to take their mind off your shot.
