What I've Been Doing in 2013

Spread the love

I appreciate that so many of you have emailed me this year to extend greetings and to ask me what I’ve been up to. Well, here is a small overview:

As many of you know I am now going whole hog into writing non-gambling books and articles — one of the main reasons I retired from GTC. I write just about every day. There wasn’t enough time to do all my writing and continue with teaching classes. (I’ve only played eight days the whole of 2013. In 1990’s I played 130 days a year.)

My new book Confessions of a Wayward Catholic just came out and I am halfway through a novel Trev (been working on this one for two years!). Confessions of a Wayward Catholic is going to be my breakthrough non-gambling book (I pray). It’s gotten some really great reviews (see back cover).

If you go to my web site at http://www.frankscoblete.com and check out my “In Our Time” non-gambling articles http://frankscoblete.com/scobes-in-our-time/ I think you will enjoy them.

Yes, I am still writing my gambling books and columns. I have two books I just signed for. One is at the editor and will be out in May, I Am a Card Counter: Inside the World of Advantage-Play Blackjack. This tells the full story of my 25-year career as a card counter, 12 of which I was teamed with my wife the Beautiful A.P. It is an eye-opener. I also have great stories about Ken Uston. Stanford Wong, Walter Thomason, Jerry “Stickman,” Wheat Germ Man, Silas Marner, Henry Tamburin, my “Lone Rangers” an AC card counting team, and Dominator. I’ll also introduce you to the greatest blackjack player I ever met (no not me). He taught me a technique of play almost no advantage blackjack players know. You’ll also learn about my harrowing experiences with casino bosses.

The second book, which will be out in May of 2015, is I Am a Dice Controller: Inside the World of Advantage Play Casino Craps. Here I will relate my 25-year career as a dice controller, including my 10 years with Golden Touch Craps. It’s about my training and experiences and has all the greats including my mentor the Captain, the Arm, the Captain’s Crew plus all the great GTCers. Get ready for some wild times here.

I’ve also been doing a lot of traveling. A.P. and I realize that we are at the age where constantly spending our time in a casino has prevented us from enjoying other aspects of life. We’ve been to Japan for a 16-day trip, Cape May three times, Washington D.C., Miami, Hawaii for two weeks and Jerry “Stickman” and I are doing a tour of all the baseball parks in America (I even attended a Tokyo Giants game). You can read about “Our Baseball Odyssey” at http://frankscoblete.com/baseball/. We’ve been to a whole bunch of cities. It’s fun. We tour the cities and see the games.

I do miss doing classes and playing with my fellow GTCers but I am going down a different road now.

Sounds like you have been busy.

I thought you might have spent more time being a grandparent.

Enjoy your life while you can. May your health stay good.

Hey Frank,
Glad to see you are doing well. Also glad I got a chance to meet you before you retired. Like i said when I first met you, you are a celebrity to me. I grew up reading your books and getting the chance to meet you and Dom was very exciting to me. Wish I could have worked with you longer. Stay we’ll and don’t ever stop writing.

Oh, Noah, the grandkids come first. They live 60 miles away and in New York that can be a three hour drive (through Manhattan). So if we want to visit for a single day it goes like this. I get up at 3:30am and write for three or four hours, then eat, then we take the train to their town in New Jersey. We get there about 10 or 11am. We watch a game or go to a recital or just hang out and fool around; have lunch, buy comic books, you know the regular grabndparents stuff. Then we hop the train home.

On the times we stay an extra day or two we either sleep over my son’s house or get a hotel room. In those cases, my writing day doesn’t exist — those are my best days off.

Now, Noah, please buy my book! (I’ve read some excerpts to the grandkids — not the sexy stuff.)

Hi Frank,

Glad you are enjoying life.

It was great to see you at the craps table with Stickman in October in AC at our favored casino.

I even made a few bucks!

First I hope your book sells well and that you keep up with writing . I read the Virgin Kiss and liked it a long with your crap books . But I AM DISAPPOINTED that the first word from you since your last post is about selling book. I Hoped to hear more advise to new members and a story or two from you since leaving .But you got to do what is in your best interest .Hope that you are enjoying the family more .
I know that a lot of members would love to hear a story or two from you .
Good Rolling. 😀 😀

Actually, since retiring I have been cautious not to step on any toes by jumping in and giving advice. Golden Touch belongs to the people doing it now. I think in some areas the leadership might be going in new directions. So I am staying away from discussing craps. I think you are dealing with the new Golden Touch and that is how it should be. This site belongs to them and I asked Dominator for permission to post my new book.

Of course, I want to sell my book Confessions of a Wayward Catholic and I figure I have plenty of people on this forum who have read my stuff over the years and might be interested in reading this book. I once did a book signing the same day as a famous horror author (the biggest one in the world) and I noticed him making sure his books were all totally see-able in this famous bookstore. You know what I was doing? Making sure my books were see-able in this famous bookstore. That’s the way with writers. Comes with the territory.

Frank I thought that since leaving you would have more time to give us some of your wisdom . It is easy to do that any were in the world these days . I am sure that AP is making sure you enjoy the rest of your life .It seems that you are still busy .I enjoyed reading your books and look forward to more to come .
It was that a post early by tricky that got me to say some thing . Don’t take it the wrong way. Hope you keep up with practice .
Good Rolling. 😀 😀
