Humbled in Reno

Spread the love

Made a trip up to Reno this last weekend and I have to be honest. I was humbled. The first two days I threw and my nerves got to me. The first day I couldn’t grip properly because my finger were shaking so bad. I did play a lot and used it as a practice session. I played a three dollar table and went no higher than a five dollar table. It still hurt my pride more than my wallet. I have been practicing daily and thought I was ready. I was ready for more practice. I had very few 6/1 sevens but my double pitches more than made up for a terrible SRR.
I have to be honest. I was tired. I had worked from 3 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. the day before and I should have just spent the first day in the spa. No, I wanted to have some fun. Losing is not fun anymore. By the third day, I found my shot. Good grip, good follow through and my spot at sl1 on my favorite twelve footer. I did have one decent roll and played the Big Skinny the whole time. It was too little, too late. I came home with my tail between my legs and not feeling very well about my performance.
What I learned: Use the five count on all CFers, Don’t play unless conditions are ideal. Five count myself if things aren’t looking good. Spend more time eating gelato and hanging out at the pool. I have to play more often to deal with the nerves and get used to walking away. These are all things I have read in the posts and I just have to stick by them. No one can help me with that. I need to be more disciplined. I still have a lot of practicing to do before my shot looks the way it should to win. I can see when the dice are right. I was rushing my shot and still thinking about who was watching me. I did have a great time with my two son in laws. We had some nice meals and it was good to see my favorite dealers.
I am going to Vegas in three weeks and will try to implement what I have learned. I sure love this game. Now I will continue the journey knowing that what I do alone in my garage will always be tempered by the reality of the casino. The two will meet eventually and I look forward to that day. I know this post is nothing new to most of you. I do appreciate your honesty and I want to be honest with you too.
It isn’t always going to be a winning trip.
Good rolling to all of you, DoughBoy

It sounds like it may have been a cheap lesson , and if you look at it probably less expensive than some previous times in the casino.

Sounds like you learned some things and can look forward to better times.

Stay with the process!

Doughboy, it has been a while but we have been there and done that. In all of life’s activities we learn more from our mistakes than our mistakes.

Frankly in the past couple of years we have found that the Reno/Tahoe area is not really good for GTC type of play. We simply don’t go there as there are too many good other places to play. We have found heat (and yes we hit the back wall every time), bad tables, and simply crazy management at several casinos.

Dough Boy Have you gotten any chips yet. I guess you could just bring some real ones home from your next winning trip. 😀 😀
Just don’t color up at end so not to have all black ones for practice .
Good Rolling. 😀 😀

Thanks Guys; I am back at the practice table. Reno was rough but certainly not devastating. There was unnecessary heat like Doc described. Reno is going through rough times as well. I know what I am looking for shot wise thanks to the refresher I took in Vegas. I am not there yet and I have a lot of practice to look forward to. This is really a type of art project. I am looking forward to the "work" I have in front of me. My 401g is growing a lot faster than my talent. That’s the truth and I’m not ashamed to admit it. I still love the game. DoughBoy

Doughboy, interesting subject and knowing where to play with your money. Interesting to me because I was humbled a little the other day too. I went to a casino and I had the dice doing and reacting well and some woman put her hand in the way and I sevened out. Moved to another table and had the dice dancing again. There was no more room at the table and these two idiots decided to make room because I was hitting alot of numbers. I sevened out on the next roll because she hit me with her hip while I was in the middle of the throw. I went home angry and mad but soon got over it. I didn’t loose any money but I didn’t win much either.

there is no advantage in playing on a full table only disadvantage and lots of it, go review your notes from class and find out what to find out what playing conditions are recommended for advantage play, or you will have no one to be mad at but yourself for playing in that condition.

Doughboy, you got your thoughts together real good and your checklist is perfect. Remember there was only 1 400 hitter in baseball and he didn’t make it to first base 6 out 10 times!

You got a great shoot!
