1. Have you single-handedly killed controlled shooting with all your publicity?
This criticism is crazy. Long before GTC had our web site, long before we were even doing classes, the Internet dice folks were all over the cyber world writing about dice control. These same people still are. One character has a multitude of dice boards and this individual has plastered himself on just about every gambling board that exists in order to get free publicity and capture students to take his course.
Any casino interested in dice control can go right to the Internet, since the late 1990s I’m guessing, and get all the information they need to establish the idea that such as thing as dice control exists. The publicity was all over the Internet since the mid-1990s.
Some other Internet gurus have appeared on television and done radio interviews – no different than what I have done.
Yes, GTC sells a product to gamblers and that product is how to beat the casinos at craps with a controlled throw.
Interestingly enough, I have received a number of emails lately with quotes from some poor soul who says we are not teaching advantage play methods in our advantage-play slot course or that what we teach is just hopping on progressive machines when the jackpots are high enough to make it a positive expectation and also to use your players’ cards to get comps.
Wrong.
Those of you who have taken our advantage slot-playing course know what we taught and it is nothing like what our critics say we are teaching. The reason for that is the fact that our critics have no idea about new advantage play opportunities at slots or any other game.
2. Some critics think Frank’s books stink and that Frank is not a good writer but a hack that doesn’t make sense at all.
To each his own.
Most of the folks who are criticizing my writing have never been published in real magazines and newspapers; have never had a book under their names published by a real publisher; have never had to deal with real editors’ “suggestions” on what can and can’t be in a book (that’s a tale in itself). They haven’t written produced plays; or television shows or anything with any market or artistic value.
3. There is a new web site by some one who tried to get a book published by a famous publisher and they turned him down because they were publishing Frank’s first book. He is very critical of Frank.
I didn’t have anything to do with this person’s book not being acceptable for publication by a real publishing company. I had no power in the publishing world when I wrote my first few books and I had no idea of who else wanted their craps books published. Why this person dislikes me for his failure is beyond me. As an aside, I have helped many writers get books published and columns accepted in magazines.
4. Another critic who owns many websites called Frank’s publisher to find out how many copies of his books he sold but I don’t think he called the video and audio people because that wasn’t mentioned in the post.
I’ve been writing about gambling for over 22 years and I have 28 books published under my own name, 10 books published under my Frank Scoblete “Get the Edge Guides,” three VHS tapes with James Coburn as host which have been made into DVDs; three audio tapes with me as host and now a great new GTC DVD about controlled shooting. I’ve written television shows and appeared on many a well.
No publisher is going to say how many books have been sold by an author to some unknown character who calls them on the phone. But just do the math. I have sold about 2,000,000 and that comes to 46,511 sales per book/DVD. Now, yes, some of my books have sold an extraordinary number of copies – more than five times the per-product average; but some have sold less; and some haven’t been great sellers at all, but my tapes have done really well and have been made into DVDs.
I think certain people are just looking to take me down a peg figuring they lift themselves up a peg by doing so.
3. Has Frank killed the Golden Goose?
Except for the Captain, the Arm and Jimmy P., there was no Golden Goose in existence to kill up until 1997 or so. When I first started this journey in dice control I was a $5 player. No casino was afraid of me. No casino knew I existed. Sharpshooter was and still is a $5 player.
The Internet critics are all $5 and $10 players, although some are now claiming they are green and black chip players when a year or so ago they were red chip players. Their inflation of their playing levels and their “per hour” win rates have probably come from the fact that it is now public knowledge about those who have actually won millions playing this great game. They have to inflate their win rates to make themselves appear competent so they can corral students.
Do you think the casinos think these $5 and $10 players are killing some Golden Goose? That would be a joke if they did.
Now, yes, once the word got out that controlled shooting worked; and once some of us started to make large sums of money; the casinos have taken notice. I’ll admit that my contribution to the public knowledge has been great, no doubt about it (I wrote an article a while back where I admitted to being a big mouth because, hell, I am a writer and all writers are big mouths – that’s our nature or we wouldn’t write!). But the constant harping about dice control on the Internet for numerous years by the very people who criticize me has helped publicize controlled shooting just as much as I have.
Don’t forget all of my critics are writing publicly or The Craps Devil would not have known about any of this. Keeping dice control under the radar has not happened and I am guilty of publicizing it, yes, but those who claim I am the only one who created this public acknowledgment of dice control are pots calling the kettle black. They hold classes and seminars too. They sell products too. Some have appeared on television too What’s the difference between them and GTC – other than level of success and income?
And by the way, is it easier for a casino “spy” to turn on his computer and read the never-ending ramblings of Internet dice control writers or get a copy of a magazine or book where I am writing about these things?
4. They also said [Frank] was arrogant and an ego maniac and not a friendly guy and also not a good shooter although I saw him shoot in class and on the DVD and his shot looks great to me. But he has a lot of critics out there who think his class is not that good but their classes are good. What do you make of that anyone?
My opinion is that our GTC classes are the best in the world. We have had a large pool of students come to us after taking other classes with other teachers and they have all told us there is no comparison – our classes are far superior.
I also know that the other groups have copied the way we do things to improve their products (for example, now recommending good bets as opposed to idiotic bets) but the truth is – our instructors are the best; our classes are the best, our information is the best and our shooters, both instructors and students, are the best.
I’ve been a good shooter for a long time now. I’ve had my ups and downs, naturally, but over the years I have partaken of my own golden goose meal. Check out the World Records page and all of my 50+ hands have been witnessed by people other than my partner, Dominator. Yes, that is the fall back of some of my critics – that my only witness to my long rolls has been Dominator. Not true. Many of my long rolls he was not there for. Many of you have witnessed my big ones.
Now, I don’t think I am arrogant or an ego maniac or unfriendly but that isn’t for me to judge. If you’ve met me you have to draw your own conclusions about my personality.
5. They also think the Captain is a made up person and that no one has really made those big hands like in the 60’s or 70’s [in the World Records] and that the Captain’s [147 and 100] hand is a lie. They say the big rolls are caused by sock puppets and the World Records page is a joke except for Rock and Roller. They don’t like Dom either but they really hate Frank.
How can anyone not like Dom; he is so calm and relaxed and reticent?
Well, some of you reading this are in the 60-hand and 70-hand category and more of you are in the 50-hand category and even more are in the 40-hand category. Are you real or not?
The late Captain was real – we have so many people who met him now that it is insane not to realize he was what I have said he was. Many of you have met Satch – one of the Captain’s crew, a guy I wrote about in my very first book.
The World Records are not a joke. They are real. The Captain was real. YOU are real. Maybe the critics just feel bad that they didn’t think of doing this kind of World’s Record page since they have copied so much from us the last few years.
Some critics have asked why hasn’t the casino where the Captain threw his 147-hand not put up a plaque to honor it, the way the California Club has done with Stanley Fujitake and many others? The answer is simple: The California Club is a miniscule casino where the walls are visible close up from any area of the casino. The Captain’s roll took place is a much, much, much larger casino that dwarfs the California Club – you can’t even see the walls from most areas of this casino. Aside from that, the Captain doesn’t want his name mentioned either. So those two things are the reasons for not putting up a plaque on a wall that no one would see anyway.
6. What do you make of this all? I have had great faith in GTC but I am wondering with all this criticism some of it might be true and that they say any critical posts are dropped on this site is that true?
Some posts are dropped on this site, usually for pushing some stupid gambling system. But Dom and I reserve the right to bust posts as we see fit. Period. However, some other websites will not allow any GTC people (such as me or Dom or other GTC instructors) to be on their private boards. We allow anyone to sign up for ours and my critics are all on this board. (Hi, folks!)
Okay, here are some other things:
The “others” lied about the A&E Special saying:
1. Dom and I did not have good rolls, only Sharpshooter did. Not true. Dave “Da Porker” was at the second and third casino and saw us have great rolls. These just didn’t make it to the show. In fact, I closed the show in the second casino with a very long hand.
2. They say the other three dice controllers, not the GTC group, won against the three casinos. Not true. We won; they didn’t.
3. The show was edited to make us look good and them look bad. The throws were unedited. They were what they were. In fact, many bad throws were shown in the first casino where we all stunk up the joint.
4. They say about my new Internet film on VideoJug that my rolls look awful. Some do; some don’t. It’s all how VideoJug edited this. Most critics have never done real film or television work so they have no idea of what goes on in filming or in editing.
There’s more but it’s my 60th Birthday and I have a party to go to with AP – a private party.
