What are the advantages of using the fingertip grip versus the pad grip? When I grip the the dice with my fingertips the "C" is really exaggerated. Is this normal for this grip?

The advantage is using your finger tips is that you have less finger contact on the dice. The less finger contact the easier the dice will roll off your fingers. now it is harder to get to the point of using your tips, but if you can, your results in the long run will be better

To get to the finger tip grip, should I curl my fingers or slide them up from the pad grip?

I have had issues with getting the balanced amount of skin contact with the dice and have tried various amounts of contact – tips verses pads. I think its a personal thing because we all have different finger and thumb size, but what ever you do it has to be equal between the dice. Sometimes looking from the top or various angle from our own vantage point things seem equal but they are not. If you can have someone who knows what you are trying to do/ another GTC to take a look at your grip to get a second opinion it can be very helpful. Prior to the recent refresher I couldn’t figure out what my issue was and went crazy trying to get my throw right. Actually ended up with a contorted and totally disfunctional throw. The grip issue portion came down to the structure/angles between my thumb and middle finger and what I thought looked like even contact for my thumb – which wasn’t. Now I evenly grip the dice but slide my thumb over slightly to get the even balance between the dice for my thumb. To me the "C" is critical to getting the dice to leave my hand properly and the better I maintain the C the better the outcome. I do use tips on the finger and a little more pad on the thumb – but that’s what fits for me.
