Craps

The harder I work…the luckier I get.

Spread the love

Who said that? Lou Costello, or J. Paul Getty. Anyway…I’m DavidM, and at one time I wrote several posts on the GT page. Things change, and life throws curves. Priorities really are a priority. (what’d he say??)

After several months, (felt like years) of total "shut down", & all my "stuff" stored. My family, wife, 93yr old Father, 11yr old dgtr/gr.dgtr, and my dog…decided I needed to get back to what "I" loved to do, for me. It was a great pleasure to be able to start again.

The plan was for me to play 2 days, middle of week, Wed & Thurs, every 3rd week. Home Friday. FAN-FLIPPING-TASTIC!! I felt the Earth move. There were 5, now 6 Casinos 2hrs away. In case of emergency..home 2hrs. I worked, studied, and practiced harder than ever before to get ready. Particularly re-reading about good previous sessions, to get my mind right.

Prior to my sabbatical from the tables, my style of play was locked in at shoot 3 or 4x, take a break. Usually at least one roll was 20+. I kept good records, practiced strong, and played a tight game. Started same way and something changed. (still don’t know what) First outings, not good at all. After several trips and lots of notes, I found a story unfolding. I was playing incorrectly.

Our shared philosophy, verbally anyway, is a consistent style of advantage play with discipline at each level. I will have to admit that after actual table time with some of my classmates, I wondered if we attended the same class. Particularly it was late and fatigue was setting in. Amazing! Spending all that $$$ and not using the knowledge. Anyway, I digress…I’m getting old & I like to tell stories. CUTTING TO THE CHASE I knew how to exploit this pattern. (in my mind anyway)

Dom: "PLAY YOUR OWN GAME" SKINNY: "WANT TO WIN MORE…BRING MORE TO THE TABLE" FRANK: "BUY MY BOOK AND I’LL GIVE YOU AN AUTOGRAPH" (gotcha Frank)

Now let’s put it to work. Before hitting tables I always write a game plan. Prior to this I used Dom’s & BTK’s 6/8 progression to great success. Things change. Using Skinny’s advice I stepped to the plate. Other than confidence, knowing my shot, & experience, I had another important item. A correct BANK to use. First 3 trips were EPIC. Shot more times, than ever, and won more. I know..I know!! what’d he do? What’d he do?

Chapter 17, Betting your edge. Chapter 22, When this happens, do this. Basically think and use the tools we already have. This plan is for ME & MY SHOT AT THIS TIME.
I 5 count myself, pay attention. Same advice I give my 11yr old every day. I play what I am shooting, not what I want to shoot. Read that again. Here is a not unusual run for me. Pt, 7out. Pt, 7out. Pt, 7out. 10-15. Serious profit. Crazy, but now let’s fill in the blanks.

$5 line, no odds. $1 top of mine for dealers. $5 come. Come goes to number, no odds. Shoot 3rd time. For 4th. Think. What do I have? How do I feel? etc..play accordingly.

What I know: Majority of early outs for me, pt. 7. I WILL repeat a number during 5 count. I WILL hit a come with HEAVY odds, before end of roll.
Variations: If dice are ugly..line & come only, until one hits, or out. Hitting 4/3, 5/2. Work harder. 6/1, 2x, walk. Dice stop within 8" sq. area, or get ready to leave.
By paying attention & being flexible, this has worked for ME and what my dice ARE DOING now. Math may not be right, I don’t care. $$$ already in the bank.

Without the time & $$$ spent learning the GT philosophy, and the critiques from our great cadre, I would still be trying to catch a "Midnight" with my last red chip.

This is the bare bones version for me. If you get a good roll..holy moly!

I missed being a part of the journey.

Shoot with passion or pass the dice.

Thanks Noah, it is nice to be back. Maybe I remember this page incorrectly. No one has "jumped" my bones on anything. Group observations, & critiques is what makes our game stay sharp, in my opinion. I guess it is true, "..can’t go back home."

Shoot with passion…or..

Hey Mark, good to hear from you. Sent some info you will need, through GT mail. Hope your curves were "things" and not health curves.

Timmer, thanks. Thought no one remembered me there for a minute.

Hi Dave

Glad things are going better with you and your family.

I am just getting back to the forum myself. Bill’s passing really hit me hard.

Great post and thanks for sharing!
