What do I say? regarding the 6 and 8

Spread the love

SOmeone clarify for me, do I want to buy the 6 and 8? or place it? I always get mixed up. which one pays more?

also, what do I tell the dealers if I want to keep doubling up my bets on those numbers once they hit? I haven’t tested my self yet on Smart Craps, but I’ve noticed in practice and in actual casinos, I can hit those numbers several times before my roll is over. WHen I last played, I just kept getting paid off, but wasnt sure what to say if I wanted to just keep them on the numbers so that each bet is bigger and bigger each time. thanks for the help and tips.

Our understanding is that buying the 6 and/or 8 is not a good move since the house vig is only 1.5 when placing the 6 and 8. The buy on these two numbers is higher. If we are wrong someone please correct me.

As to how to increase (press) your bet on the 6 and 8 several ideas come to mind. First of all we like to get our money on the table back in the rack before we do any pressing. We may even get a small profit before we begin to press.

1. To press your bet you can ask for a full press on the first hit and on the second hit after the full press put the win in the rack. You can put the full press on the number hit or split it 50-50 on each number and put the next hit in the rack.

2. Another idea we like is to press the number just hit with 50% of your win and do this on each and every win. This way you are putting something (50 % of you win) in the rack each hit.

3. Use the Dominator/Billy method explained in the GTC manual.

Bottom line simply tell the dealer that you want to press and tell him how much. Assuming the 6 just hit, you can say something like "give me a full press on the 6" or if you wish to split the win between the 6 and 8 say "make my 6 and 8 look like $90" assuming you had $60 on each number. Another idea is to tell the dealer you want to increase the 6 and 8 one unit or 2 units each–a unit being $6.

Hope this will be of some help to you and that others will add some positive comments for you.

Doc is correct in the vernacular and its use. But remember, you have to be on the plus side of the ledger before doing any pressing or increasing. It does you no good to press the 6 on its first hit if you 7 out on the very next throw, especially if you also have the 5 as Point, with double odds, and the 8 placed as well with nothing to show from either of them.

Some casinos allow "Put Bets". It can carry a lower house edge than placing the 6 and 8. For example: a $10 table with 10 times odds: you make a $110 Put bet on the 6 and/or 8. $10 as a "flat" bet with $100 odds. Pays $130 when you throw the 6 or 8. I believe this is around a .8 percent house edge on 6 and 8 for a random shooter vs 1.52 percent for a place bet. House edge is equal to a place bet if you only do 5x odds. THIS CAN CUT THE HOUSE EDGE IN ABOUT HALF FOR LARGE BETS ON 6 OR 8!

Perhaps you could start with smaller place bets, then as you press it past $60 on a $10 table ($30 on a $5 table), start doing the Put Bets instead to get a lower house edge.
