    Table coverings

    My practice rig is starting to look a little rough and thought I would update the original wool/felt covering that is on top of a flannel sheet with a material like you find on the typically casino table today. Any suggestions for sources for the different types of cloth? I think the new table coverings I see are some kind of synthetic blends. And I don’t want to spend a fortune on the real deal professional cover with all the graphics.

    I could put one type of material on my receiving station and a different type of material on my throwing station and use them interchangeably. I am also looking to build a new smaller table and throwing station that would be mounted to a wall and fold up or down so to save space.

    Richard if the felt is showing wear and possibly a few holes it should be replaced. I think you might invest in a felt table top that is at least 8 feet long si you could cut it into a few pieces. I would not buy different types of felt unless you have a few extra bucks to invest in your game.

    Building a second receiving station that can be mounted to a wall is a great idea, just make sure you make the surface at least 1 to 11/2 inches thick. With regards to the felt on your throwing station just make sure it doesn’t have holes in it.

    My last receiving station I used billard felt on MDF board. I belief it gives me a middle of the road surface. Set44

    Several sources are available. First is the GTC’s Gamblers General Outpost. I replaced the cover for my craps table from Dom. It really works well. As Finesse said you can cut it up so that you have several spare covers for the future. You can’t go wrong here.

    A second source is the Gambler’s General Store near downtown Vegas. You can see what they have on the internet and they might have small pieces you can use–don’t know for sure. If you get to Vegas it is a fun place to take a break from the casino and go look around.

    I have used felt from the local fabric store – worked ok, but wore out faster than pool table felt.

    You can get pool table felt with and without backing. The felt with the backing seems to have more bounce.

    I have bought pool table felt from a local store that sells pool tables and supplys. They would cut and sell me what I wanted. The chain store that sells pool tables could not deal with the fact I only wanted a small piece of felt and did not need it installed.

    The best option I have found is to find a local guy who recovers pool tables and see if he will sell you his leftovers.
