I am new to dice control and I have not yet had a chance to take a GTC class, so I’m relying on the GTC books to get me started. I’ve been practicing for about 2 months and my dice seem to fly together well, I have a little trouble with them on edge sometimes, but my biggest problem is getting the dice to stop. My throws seem to be very gentle. So gentle that they sometimes fall short of my practice rig. They seem to just float until they hit the practice rig. Then it’s like they were shot out of a cannon. They hit, take a strong bounce, and rocket backwards. Usually at least one dice rolls off of my practice rig. When they do stay it seems that it’s because their landing was perfectly flat and they just kind-of stick to the felt. Sometimes they do this without ever hitting the wall. Do you guys think it’s just me, or do you think my practice rig might be better suited as a trampoline? Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

Here is an idea. Purchase a piece of plywood and cut it to the exact same size as the landing portion of the practice rig. A 1/2 inch thick piece of plywood should do just fine. Fasten it to the underside of the receiving portion of the practice rig and reattach the legs. This will add some firmness to your landing area. The only draw back is the fact that when you move it, it may be heavier but not much. This could be an inexpensive solution.
If you are really serious about this GTC advantage play concept (and you give all indications you are) take the class as soon as possible. You don’t want to have too many small flaws in your throw to correct. It is easier to learn something from scratch that it is to break a bad habit. We have been there and done that.
Just a few idle thoughts. Hope they help.
Hope to see you in the casino (or a class) soon.

As for my rig, I bought it off of the Internet but its not a gtc. It’s just a small portable rig. I’m probably going to buy one of the gtc practice tables for my office soon. I think it would be good stress relief and I can practice at the same time. I definitely want to take a gtc class. I’ve just got to get it worked in to my schedule somehow. I’ve seen Dom throw on video and I keep trying to get that effect where the dice just die after they hit the wall but it seems to be incredibly difficult and frustrating trying to learn it. Of course, I’ve always enjoyed sports and every athletic skill takes practice to perfect. I’m going to keep trying. Thanks for all the advice!

I like to say to "Trust the GTC throw". And what I mean by that is that the throw has all the components in it to make the toss gentle. You do need some energy in the toss … sometime missing the rig that you have tells me that you don’t have enough energy in the toss. Reach out for the box and throw the dice! Use the grip and toss in the book. Try a little more energy on the toss by just increasing your backswing just a couple of inches.

Just a reminder that the whole arm swing motion and reach to the receiving station target needs to be from the Shoulder.
I think lots of times when we are trying to throw softer that we have a tendency to short arm the toss. Short arming doesn’t work in any sport toss and it doesn’t work with the dice toss either. This was something I had to really work to overcome when I started tossing the dice.
Hope this helps!

So relax, toss them naturally with enough energy and an arc to land them in an area approximately 3 to 6 inches from the back wall.

I also agree with you that

Normally I would not say this because I don’t want to sound like a commercial. But in your case, I get the impression you are really serious about learning to do this properly and becoming an advantage player. If that is true, I urge you to get to a class as soon as you possibly can. There is only so much you can learn on your own from the books and DVD. It takes the knowledge and experience of several instructors and mentors to get you on the right path from the beginning. The longer you wait, the more bad habits will creep into your routine and it will be that much harder to get you back to the basic toss.
I expect, with almost complete certainty, there are problems with your grip that need correcting and probably about 5 or 6 other things that need to be corrected, even if ever so slightly, with your basic set up and throw. Those are things we can not fix without seeing them and I want you to get started out right because you sound passionate about this endeavor.

Why?
Why build a false sense of security with a easy table to beat my first table was that way no good.

Husbands and wives playing together make for a great combination. We have a number of terrific husband/wife teams who have great success and a lot of fun in the casinos.
Some that come to mind are Goddess/Sandtrap, Doctor Crapology/Alligator Rose, Lois and Clark and Kathy/Cobe Mueller. I know there are many others as well. They can tell you about their experience if you would like to let your wife know what she can expect. She will not be disappointed and neither will you if you decide to play together.
