Train your brain for success. Have a mantra.

Spread the love

One of the topics that we teach in the GTC refresher and advanced classes deals with mediation and having a mantra.
I just read this article regarding an ironman champion that strictly adheres to this method.

"We can all train our brains to be as strong as our bodies. It sounds simple, but it’s so easy to forget. If we let our head drop, our heart drops with it. Keep your head up, and your body is capable of amazing feats. To plunder the words of Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, "Don’t ever forget that you play with your soul as well as your body."

I have had a mantra of my own for several years. Sometimes I am so in a zone, that while I am waiting for the payouts I don’t notice that the dice have passed back to me, and Sandtrap has to touch my arm. During a 50 roll session, the stick person actually asked Sandtrap, "Do you think we should wake her?" Several times during a long roll, the box person has said, "She is really in her zone!"

I have a mantra as well, but I can not repeat it in polite company! 🙂

I seriously use it though. It helps as a focus and more importantly as a cue to your brain that you are about to do the activity with which it is linked. Always use your mantra in practice to build this neural association.
