Hi Stealthman Hope you enjoyed AZ. I had this come up in Vegas not to long ago. I am not the one that will do that usually but there was room and the other tables were full.I went around a few times hoping that my spot would open up at another table.
Well after a HR. or so I did ask and the guy said that he likes to stand across from his bets even tho he was not rolling.He would move over and let me in. That was a big mistake. He went to move his chips and dropped them ALL over the table.I could feel the blood going to my head. It made me vary uncomfortable.
I will never do that again. I watched this guy during the rest of the day. He would only roll if he was way ahead. He would just press every bet till he lost.
I would leave for a hr. or two and come back and he would still be there. When I came in early morning he was still there. Still not rolling but at Sl 1-2.

In a very nice way, I tell the ploppy that is next to the stickman (or SL 1/2) that that is my "lucky spot" and does he mind if I ask him to move over a bit. Most will do so and I thank him. Since he is a ploppy the next time I get the dice I will make a small hardway bet for him. This seems to be appreciated. If it happens to hit I am his hero for life–even it its only a few dollars.

Then there is the jerk who looks at you like you are crazy to even ask. I just move on to another table and if they are crowded to another casino or to the pool for some swimming and sun and of course some bikini observation–I may be old but somebody has to do the dirty work. No position, no playing at the tables. Notice I did not say "gambling" for as an advantage player I don’t play a game I don’t have a long term chance to win.

If you are accompolished at SL then practice the GTC SR throw, but only if you feel you have the SL throw down. With two positions you have doubled your opportunities at the table.

If the table is fairly full, but there is room between the player and the stick person, I will ask if I may play there, and I have never been turned down.

However, I would never do that on an empty table.

Where we regularly play, there are many players who recognize us, and frequently move over when we approach the table. There are even a couple who say they are "saving our space" for us.

We are retired, and close to AC. It certainly helps to have a casino to frequent on a regular basis, where the crews and players get to know you, and appreciate how you play.

The Stickmen do not like being crowded. They also know that we prefer to play from those positions. I no longer squeeze into a game near the stick. If I do not have room, I do not play. You crowd into that spot causes unwanted antagonism to both the player and the stickman.

Sorry Stealthman, didn’t address your question. I will not squeeze into an opened spot if squeeze is indeed what it takes. I want to be comfortable, not feel like a sardine sandwiched between the stick and who knows. I also don’t want to call attention to myself and make it apparent that there is only where I’ll toss from.

I will not touch the dice if out of position, plain and simple.

Low key and under the radar is the mantra. Ummmmm Ummmmmm 🙂 🙂 🙂

It often happens that there is room and I always ask if I may play in SR1. Haven’t been turned down yet. Some stickmen ask the party to move a little and let me in when they see me coming or hanging near the table. The worst that can happen is they say no. Just ask.

Great post, Stealthman. It’s a good thing you didn’t try to "squeeze" in, even if you were able to do so politely.

No need to attract undue attention to yourself and possibly wear out your welcome in the long run. And…

The scenario you describe doesn’t much sound like advantage play conditions anyway. So you’re right! You were wise to show discipline and walk away…

Another option for you to consider would be adding an additional game to your holster, such as advantage play blackjack or Pai Gow. You can then play these games with an edge while keeping an eye out for conditions to improve at the craps table.

There are posts on blackjack and Speed Count on the "Other Games" board. Skinny’s posts and insight on advantage play Pai Gow are excellent as well.
