I had a long standing plan to get to AC during this class to see so many of the great craps shooters I know from the virtual world of the the GTC board.
I could not do the Friday M&G and I did not want to disturb anyone during the class on Saturday and Sunday so I was left with Monday. I blocked it off on the calendar and told the bride that I was going to AC that day and I would be gone all day.
Ok all was set.
Sunday night my 2nd oldest son, the musician (trumpet) comes in and says he has rehearsal for a concert an hour north of my home on Monday afternoon. (He had previously thought it was on Tuesday)
He is a new driver and would be headed to a congested area plus the weather report was calling for snow and high winds.
The bride says, "You have to drive him, it is too dangerous"
I say, "you know I have plans. I have been looking forward to this for a month"
She says "Well i can not take off from work my boss is away in Florida"
At this point to avoid the drama I say, "ok, I will handle it"
Next morning bright and early I am driving south on the GSP. Just passed LBI the snow is coming down fast and hard. Did I make a mistake I am wondering .
By the time I get to AC I see it is only raining there.
I pull into the XXXX casino garage and at 9am exactly I walk into the casino.
There is one craps table open. I do not recognize anyone but I suspect that an elegant looking woman at the end is "goddess". Naturally I was not going to disturb anyone or ask, "Hey, are any of you GTC?" So I take a walk around.
Standing on the smoking side of the casino is a face I am pretty sure i have seen in photos on the site. I see he is wearing a NY Yankees cap so I am sure it is the fabulous writer of GTC Jumbotron Ron.
I walk up and introduce myself. I have corresponded with Ron for years and wE begin to talk like lifelong friend about everything under the sun. He is an interesting guy. Charlie and Jack come by and Ron introduces me. They seem like real good guys and I am very happy to see Charlie looks great. ( ihad been following his recent health crisis on the board)
Over an hour passes like it was five minutes. Ron and decide to sit down for breakfast.
As i am looking at the menu Ron excuses himself saying he wants to speak to someone. thirty seconds later i hear Ron call me. I look up and realize he is talking to Dom and a bunch of the guys. I walk over and greet Dom, like he is my long lost cousin, he is very gracious. He introduces me to the guys. It was a whirlwind of placing names with faces and I apologize for not listing each one on this post, Dom is kind enough to invite us to join them, ( a class act) however the table was crowded and I did not want cause anyone to be uncomfortable by me trying to get my fat body squeezed in there, so Ron and i go back to our table.
During breakfast I explain to Ron that I have to get back on the road by noon so I can get home and drive my son.
After we eat. We head back to the casino. I did not have much time left before I had to go. I hang with Ron as he finishes his cigar. Billy stops by and we chat. I confess that I am inpatient when it comes to five counting. He encourages me to alway five count. He is righ. (Thanks)
I am really pushing the time constraint I have, so I say goodby. As I am leaving I see Dom and talking. I stop and chat. As we talk I am wishing that I had more time because I could have easily talked to them for an hour, and still I would have wanted to talk some more. Alas time was short and I had to leave.
Driving home I was so glad that i made the morning trip. Everyone was so great. I just was sorry that I did not get to spend more time with all you guys and to see some of the other great players that were there.
Hopefully next year.
Until then
I wish you all the best.
