Jumbotron Hits a 6 Number Fire Bet

Spread the love

This past weekend in AC, I was fortunate to witness Jumbotron hit a 6 number fire bet.

He started the roll with the 3V, 3s on top. The first and second points were converted rather fast, and they were inside numbers. By the third point, two new people had joined the table on my side, and the players on Jumbotron’s side of the table had gone from applauding and hooting when numbers were thrown to high-fiving Jumbotron. That didn’t disturb him.

The 3rd point to be established was the 4, I believe. The two new people on my side of the table were acting like they were about to unleash some stupidity, if you know what I mean. I said, “Dice are out, HANDS UP!” a few times, barely managing to sound friendly. They each had a handful of red chips that they seemed unsure what to do with while they complained of their earlier losses at another table. A 6 is rolled, then an 8, then another 6. Jumbotron’s side of the table is happy, pressing their bets, and interacting with him even while he set the dice for the next toss. It unnerved me, but did nothing to disrupt his focus. A few more 6s and 8s followed, then a soft 4—the third point is made.

By that time, I joined in on the fun and started fist-pumping Jumbotron after each point, leaving him at peace to shoot in between points. The other players on his side, however, just can’t calm down and I am astounded at Jumbotron’s focus. I notice he is doing nothing crazy with his bets; doesn’t even have hardway bets even though he had tossed a few already and the players on his side were piling up on them. The 4th point established was a 9, I believe, and Jumbotron is calmly saying to himself, “Right back with that 9.” Next toss? Nine.

A 5th point is established and the dice go out just as someone, not me this time, sternly warns those two new players on my side to not disrupt the flow of the game. That seems to do the trick and they stopped leaving their hands hanging down the rails, waving late bets at the dealer or even screaming out numbers at Jumbotron.

That fifth point took at least 8 tosses to convert, and in those 8 tosses I used my winnings to max my odds and take my 6&8 to the point where they were both paying green chips. Jumbotron had also been conservative and only pressed his passline to $15 after the 3rd point, with $75 in odds—a press move he’s discussed many times on this forum. When that 5th point was converted, Jumbotron’s side of the table went ballistic. I fist pumped him. People literally smelled fire and started to talk about the payouts. That made my heart skip a few bits. And Jumbo? Still calm as a yogi. Set, grip, toss, collect.

A 6th point is established, BUT it was a repetition of the 10 and wouldn’t count towards the fire bet if converted. Other points had been established several times, like the 6, 8, and 5, I believe. My side of the table has place bets on all the inside numbers. Jumbo’s side has pressed bets across and is still partying after every toss. The 10 is converted, both Jumbo and I have max odds. Collect, fist-pump, refocus.

Finally a 6th point-to-the-fire is established and the celebration assumes a whole new level. Jumbo, unaffected, converts it in about 3 tosses. BOOM. Done. I swear, the table wanted to lift him up in the air, but the hand wasn’t over yet. When it calmed down, I fist-pumped him and he resumed his routine. However, adrenaline was everywhere and it finally got to Jumbotron. He 7ed-out after a few (paying) tosses.

Thanks, Jumbotron, for the nice payday 🙂

Thanks, the 10 was the 5th point towards the fire. I had been using the 3v the whole roll and it didn’t produce a 10. I had 3/3 on top with the 5/1 facing me and had annihilated the hard 6 and 3/1…4. I had made my mind up to go for the fire bet so I switched to the 4/4 on top and the 2/6 facing me. Now the same toss that produced the 3/1 would now produce a 6/4 which it did a few rolls later.

The 6th point towards the fire was the 9. On the comeout I set my dice up 5/4 on top 4/5 facing me. I hopped the 9’s 10 each. Perfect shot 5/4. I forgot to press up my hop bets which I do after I hit one. I changed to the hardway set 5/5 on top 4/4 facing me. Next shot 6/3. 6 bet fire bet wins off 10 point and hopped the last one back to back. A little flair.

Then the drama comes. Everyone gets paid except me. They said I didn’t make the bet. After 20 minutes of torture they apologized and said my $5 fire was swept up with the multitude of prop bets. They thanked me for staying so calm.

I will mention also that the 3-1 and the 6 hard were very common.
Neither Jumbotron nor I took advantage of them, though others certainly did. Me because I’m just that conservative and slow to spread out and press, and Jumbotron because he was shooting.

The player who issued the stern warning to the two ploppies was right next to me and kept telling me that the 6 hard kept showing. He went from sounding excited, to sounding surprised, to begging me to please put $50 on the hard 6, to being mad at me for not doing so. He was placing no bets himself because he had lost +2k in the two previous days and was tapped out.
He took almost no advantage of Jumbotron’s roll .

Ron, that is a really nice use of set transposition to make your desired numbers.

You must have been tossing lights out to pull that off!

Isn’t that a bad bet that GTC students are told never to make? I don’t get the praise here. Am I missing something?

You make a valid point, Broadway. With its 20+% house advantage, the fire bet is a long-term losing bet for even the most skilled of players. It is not a bet GTC recommends.

I suspect the praise has more to do with Ron hitting all six box numbers than having made the fire bet.

The praise is to the art of dice control. The roll had to be in the 60’s because 10 points n tons of numbers. It was in that range. I set the 3/3 top and 5/1 facing me and brutalized the 3/3 and 3/1. Hitting your set and betting into it is pretty much what it’s about. Fire bet aside it’s the type of roll crap players dream about. I started the roll with a $10 pass line bet $20 odds and $18 6.

Ron, Great shooting! I can’t wait to get together and talk baseball and craps in a couple of weeks in AC.

OK …. For those of you that don’t recall my opinion on the Fire Bet here it is … It is the only bet I will make that is considered a bad bet. Why do I still play it? …. because it is a bet that is a challenge for a dice controller.

Now when I make this bet, I don’t think at all about the bet till I have at least made 4 different points. I will not change my set trying to establish that that 5th point either. And I probably wouldn’t change the set to make that 5th point if it is established. But if I have made that 5th point and now I am going for the final 6th point. I will think about changing the set. Sometimes I will and sometimes I won’t.

I have made all 6 numbers 3X’s and multiple times 5 numbers. I like the challenge of the bet, but again it is not a bet that I try to make till I have got to and past the 5th number.

Now to get to the point of the edge in this bet. Golden Touch never recommends betting anything that caries a house edge that is greater than the edge you have while you are throwing the dice. But as we write in our book, "Cutting Edge Craps , Advanced Strategies" we talk about how someone that has a big edge can utilize some of these high house edge bets, like hop bets. So we HAVE written about these bets for the advanced shooter.

Now for complimenting Ron …. Ron obviously was so on with his throw. Those that witnessed it said he was on and so focused on the throw. Ron never really strayed from the teaching of GTC. He kept his set, but put a different number on top to make that last point for the Fire. I know Ron and I know what kind of a great shooter he is. You did a great job Ron!

Did they try to stiff any body else ? Also how many were on the fire bet .I was in Vegas and the guy next to me bet 10 on it for every roller. But he missed it when ordering a drink even though the dealers said something and that roller hit it for 4 numbers but he was not to up set . I have spent like 7.00 on it . Not a big fan of it.
Hope this is one of many more to come .
Good Rolling. 😀 😀

Including me, the table lost $11,000 to the fire bet on that roll. 2 people had it for $5 and 1 person for $1. They didn’t try to stiff anybody else.
