Please do not take this post as criticism of anyone. it is just my observation.

I hate to say it but the truth is this board may be becoming moribund

moribund

mor·i·bun·di·ty NOUN

I am not saying this to upset anyone but I am sure many members are thinking the same thing.

Years ago we would have long well researched and well written posts on all aspects af gaming. This included craps, blackjack, poker, Pai Gow, video poker even roulette. The best ways to play each game could be found by spending a little time here. We also had great posts on comps and travel.

Now the board is dead. Thereare Some humor posts. A link to a YouTube video, here and there or short post about a trip to an obscure location.

Where is the big stuff we had in the old days? Look at the archives there is some amazing stuff there. Believe me I am as guilty as everyone else. I mostly lurk now. I see little reason to spend the time to work on quality posts for an that audience that appears limited or unreceptive.

I have noticed that in the past posts pickup around the time of get togethers particularly Atlantic City. AC always generates a lot of discussion. Maybe thing have been quiet because there have been no recent classes.

We have lost many of the most prolific posters. Jumbo Tron Ron was great. C III was a bit temperamental but he put up some well researched data. The weird thing was no one really responded much to his stuff. I do not know why that was. years back, A fellow named one more shot and his Florida crew were all great posters. I have not seen them post in years

I think the change over to the new board format left people behind. I also think people responding to the antagonistic statements of Redstate and Bruce Backus etc was a turn off to many. i believe it was ridiculous and frankly embarrassing for anyone that wasted their time with that.

We have seen people wonder where the instructors post are, many times over the years. I disagree somewhat because i do see that some (Stick,Skinny,Goddess’, Pit etc…)do post pretty regularly. As for the others, Hey, the way I look at it is if they do not want to post they must not have anything important to say. To each his own.

Frank always made it a point to be a presence here. Whether on the board or in private emails. He was always available with a opinion, comment or advice. I for onr certainly consider him a friend even though We have never formally met in person. (As I do Dom and some other posters here) There will be a huge void left by his absence.

This board is the FACE of GTC to the huge virtual world, currently to those looking in it appears to be a ghost town,

There are a few boards out there now to compete with this. Some are quite dead some are somewhat active. I think to be successful a board needs a mix, posters of all levels. Those just wondering what it is all about. Beginners, intermediate players and veterans. I truly believe this is a great place and we are all lucky to have this.
What is the answer? I am not sure.
Maybe opening the books to new members for a trial period would be helpful.

Thoughts?

You’re right Scan……about the nobody asked you part. Just kidding of course. 🙂 But you are right about the posters.

I’m as guilty too. Life happens, work definitely has piled on more challenges as my company continues to find ways of besting the political landscape and economy.

I’ve also been turned off on the drama here, but should step in. It funny you posted this as I made a self commitment better myself this year. At work, we’ve had several training classes already on listening, moderating, leadership, and some intense Hoshin Kanri training. I’ve taken a lot to heart and your comment caused me to think, I should step up here.

So, drama and pettiness posts aside…….they will not get the best of me….and really, they shouldn’t get any of us. Why would we let just a few hijack the forum and run off good posters?

Let’s foster 2013 in with new ideas, fresh posts, and have everybody get along.

So say we all

I, as a newbie… vow to ask more questions on posts.

I do have an idea, however. with the slowpro app, why don’t people show and demonstrate their throws, so the others can either admire and learn, or the instructors can give feedback. just a thought.

I agree too with Section 8, the unnecessary drama on some posts are a turn off…rather highschoolish, I’m just saying. and truthfully, I’m still new enough to this forum that, I never got to know what the "good ol’ days" were like here, and what the great posts were that I missed. but, I try to post questions, and also try to contribute praises to others. ok. that’s it. peace.

Section 8. I LOVE the. BSG. "So say we all". Reference!!

My response: so say we all!!!

Hi SE Well I remember when I first got on this site and read ALL old posts so I would not look stupid . I also thank you again for your help and encouragement when I was building my table.
I come on this site to relax and hopefully to learn more from others even though I have been rolling the bones for more then 30 years.
I hope that others can do and expect the same.
This site should be enjoyable too.
When I first got on this site I thought that I would see more posts from instructors. I had never been on any craps sites so I just assumed it would be that way. But you know what that means.
I like your new idea and I hope it works for you and the rest of US. Also your wife did a great job with her post what happened there ?

If anybody wants to know who posts go to Members and click. It seems that a lot that signed up in Feb. for some reason don’t like to post.

Scan,

You asked for our thoughts so here is one of mine. I think we need more people to ask questions. I know for myself, I am happy to help someone if I think I can offer them advice. But unless I know what someone needs it is difficult for me to come up with something to post about. I believe this is one of the best sites with people who are willing to share and help others. But unless one asks one will not receive any answers to things that may be giving you some difficulty.

It could be a question about any aspect of gambling or something specific that is happening to you in your practice or live sessions in the casinos.

Perhaps the newbies are afraid to ask what may seem like a foolish question. Do not be concerned about that. If it has been addressed before folks will try to point you to where it was addressed to help you get your answer. If it is a new topic, it can generate a good deal of discussion.

Perhaps those who have been on the board for quite some time, feel they have nothing new to contribute because it has all been said before. Well how are your practice sessions going? Are there things that you have questions about? Did anything unusual happen to you in the casinos where you would like some other opinions or just be able to discuss what happened?

I am sure there are those who have taken the primer and perhaps a refresher or tune up on this board. I would consider those to be intermediate players. You must have questions because I am sure you are experiencing new things that you have not come up against before. Don’t try to solve it all yourself. This board is a resource to be used to assist you on your journey to becoming an advantage player. So take ADVANTAGE of the board if you want to be a true advantage player!

Finally, a word in defense of the instructors. Since numbers are my thing, I did a little number crunching on the posts by the folks on this board. Of the 25 people who have written the most posts, 9 of them are instructors. The other 16 are students. That represents 41% of the instructors who have written the most posts versus 0.3% of the students. Next I looked at the number of posts by instructors/students. That number is 3230 for the instructors vs. 6945 for students. That means 32% of all the posts have been written by 22 instructors vs. 68% of the posts written by 4,901 students. The numbers do not support the argument that the instructors do not post enough.

Skinny I have to admit you the MAN with over 675 posts that is more the Dom and Frank.
Most of Doms are short and to the point. Now Frank is a writer by Pof.
There is one or 2 instructors that have never posted.
Doc. is next big poster.
There sure is a lot of pages of members that have not posted.
Life does go on tho.
Good Rolling. 😀 😀

Scan, Alligator Rose are glad that you made this post. As we go through this transition one of the items on the agenda is gettinng more people to post—instructors and students alike–so that we have a fun and informative web page. I feel it will come.

You are a credit to GTC and we thank you for your contributions.

Finisher as far as the pages and pages of members..
I also thought it was strange. I think much of it is some type of computer error many if the names are very similar… to similar to be actual posters. Perhaps when the board changed over to the new format.
Foe example look at the name Isabella. There are plenty of them. Too many to correct.
Again nobody asked me but i think the list should be culled to the active members. If someone has not posted in a certain period – remove them from the rolls.

ArvinnI1 – I remember in the class you asked lots of questions, which was great! I knew you were going to get this down because you did not want to leave any detail left on the table. This site is just that, where people can ask questions and EVERYONE learns from the sharing. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve walked away from the computer and tried something someone suggested, and then incorporated it.

Finisher – yes it’s been a while since then. I’m glad that table turn out wonderful! You did an outstanding job on that! Since we moved in August, my table is now in the garage and I’ve only gotten to getting the
Igniting and camera stuff back up recently. Doc’s iPad App, Slo Pro sure hit the spot though…..I’ve been using that a lot. Keep the posts coming! I’m sure there’s people out there that would like to build s table and could learn from your experience.

mmmm, my posts are short and to the point. I guess that most people would say that about me in my everyday life. I like to get to the point quickly, chatting is not my forte.

Scan no offense taken by this post. Without questions from members nothing moves, so post your questions.

I think I answered the comment about instructors posting in the thread about the future of GTC. Throughout the 10 years there has only been a few instructors posting regularly because of time restraints and other things that I hope will change now. If not, so be it, [b]BUT THE IS FORUM WILL NOT DIE!

Take me for instance, as you all know I own a software company for the past 30 years that helps retailers in their businesses to become more profitable. The last two years with this economy and how bad the small independent retailer is doing, my time between seminars is working with my clients. it is now about 6:30 Eastern and I promised my self last night that I was going on this site this morning. Well I have been on the phone all day with software clients and just now have the time. BTW, I haven’t even had lunch yet.

There were talks about many subjects in our early years, and that is why I said in the other thread the we want to become the best "Advantage School" not just a craps school. Honestly, I don’t play those games like Pai Gow and some of the others that were mentioned. i play blackjack and craps, the two games that with practice you can get an advantage over the house.

Some of the people that you mentioned no longer are with GTC and some, if you knew the back door things you would say "Glad to see them go".

I think it is time for me to make some dinner for myself.

One thing that I have been waiting for ever since I came on the board hasten listed on the first page when you go to www.goldentouchcraps.com is a "chat room" but when you click that it takes you to the board index.

If I remember correctly when the second "world crap tournament" or what ever the event was called a group go together to chat about and make plans for it, so I know it can be done.

Haven’t tried to think through the problems with doing a "voice chat" ever so often, but thought that it would be great. Think about that and if you are interested I would investigate the ways that might be accomplished,"Skype","log me in" or something like that.

As I said in some of the other posts, there will be some changes and a chat might be one of them

It is also a sign of the times, I work harder, have to be more productive, there are business’ to run, phones to answer, emails to write. The stretching of humanity is getting mighty thin, all while making less.

It is tougher and tougher to just sit down and think of a singular situation for an hour. There are just too many things to do. So, letters get shorter and more to the point, phone calls become texts and attention spans are practically non existent.

Hi All!

Great post Scan!

This is just from my point of view.

I can totally understand not being a chatty person and also working very hard and having little time to do all of the other things you want or need to do in your lives. Luckily I am retired now and loving it but when I was working there were some days when it seemed I didn’t even have time to go to the bathroom!

I would like to challenge everyone (not just the instructors) that read posts here to devote at least 10 minutes per month to posting something here. It could be as simple as two sentences about something. Ask a question or give a short answer or even say "I have that problem too!" If you want to post more or something longer or even start a thread then that would also be greatly appreciated but even a couple of short posts from everyone of us each month would really make this forum a great exchange of information and ideas. 😎 I think over the last few days we are really headed in the right direction here and I for one am so excited about that! 😀

I also want to commend the instructors who have listened to our needs and stepped up with posts this last week. You are so greatly appreciated by all of us and respected and that is why we always seek your counsel!

Thanks so much! 🙂
