Practice Milestone

Spread the love

A couple of nights ago I reached 80,040 documented practice rolls. A little less than 5 years effort. At this point in time I roll 10 rolls or more about 27% of the time. I roll 50% more hardways than expected of an SRR of 9 even though I rarely use the hardway set. Mostly the 2V or 3V sets and chasing the point with the set. 3V for the 4, 6, 8, 10 with a lot of 5’s as well. The 2V set for the 5 and 9 but get a lot of 8’s with this set. This also happens in casino with each set. I set for 7’s on the comeout and often roll as many comeout seven’s as 7 outs. I track point 7 outs and double pitch outs on a daily basis.

I did a one year test each of 3 finger front vs. 1 finger front. After two years the numbers of primary, secondary, double pitch, one off axis and two off axis are comparable. There may be a difference of number of rolls over 10 but haven’t broken that down as of now. I rolled 30% less nights in 2012 and that may be the reason, undetermined…

SRR has increased from an initial 8 to 8.75 over the 5 years. I do have some months that the SRR is over 10 but haven’t had any under 8. Each month I start a new accounting for short term information and then by 6000 rolls for the longer term. There tends to be more volatility monthly than over the 6000 rolls. The number of rolls over 10 and the hardway counts are only kept over the 6000 rolls rather than monthly. I track average hand length, % on axis too. I was told by another knowledgeable person that the way I calculate my SRR it may be lower than my actual
SRR. Having something to do with my setting for the 7’s on the comeout.

There seems to be little correlation between practice results and casino results in that a good or poor practice does not mean a good or bad performance in the casino. I believe it may be the table conditions like bounce and table size which one must make adjustment for on a casino by casino basis. This would also include how well you get in the zone and your betting.

What does all this mean? I think that I can persevere and have confidence that I should be able to control the dice to a favorable degree. I am very conservative with betting and need to bet more on myself when I am rolling well, this has hurt my money making performance. It may be low self-confidence which seems contrary to my personality and ability.

I use one set of dice for 1200 rolls, I have a sleeve of one color (blue, green, amber) and red dice to differentiate left and right dies. Each pair for one night of 120 rolls and then mix them up as I start over with the 5 sets. No pair get more than 1200 rolls before being retired. This approximates one day of life in a casino, plus or minus. By recording the non-red die first I can tell which die is off axis or double pitching if that occurs.

Onward to 100,000 documented rolls! This should happen next year.

I hope you find this interesting and thanks for letting me share. Good rolling everyone!

I found your post very interesting. It sounds like you are working hard and being successful in your endeavor to control the dice. But you made one comment that had me concerned.

I expect you have seen this article before. But in light of your comment, I would like you to go over it again carefully and give it some serious consideration. I hope it helps.

Skinny,

I find myself betting more recently than in the past. I follow Stickman’s up a unit but sometimes do not follow through like I should. I hadn’t read that particular post and found it enlightening. I need to trust my throw more and go for it when I am rolling well. I have been rolling in the 20’s and 30’s lately but not coming home with as much profit as I should so looks like I am going to have to open up some. It is hard for me to let go. Thank you for your help.

Yes, trusting your throw, and trusting your results from practice is what you must do. There will always be ups and downs in live casino play as there is in practice. Having that many practice rolls is great. I would put greater emphasis on the last 5000 rolls

Wow, that is a lot of throws. I have just gotten into the dice control and my arm hurts just from thinking about 80,000 practice throws. That is awesome!

Keep up the practice it is vital to being succesful. Dom has given you great advice trust youself and your throw. Please with the results you are saying you have in practice make sure you progress you bets when you are supposed to. One needs to increase when you are having a good hand to make up for the short hands which we all have and unfortunately leave money on the table.

Having seen his three ring binders and the notes he takes, it is amazing the data that is there to be looked at and evaluated.

As an aside, one night he got down on himself after throwing another seven in the wrong place. It was not pretty. If there was a slot machine near, I think he would have done a Dom!

But a little while later he was smiling again as we talked!
