Where Have All The Moderates Gone?

Spread the love

OK everyone,

This is just my opinion and I do not have the political acumen of most that post to these threads regularly.
I just have to ask. Where are the political Moderates? I don’t think many are being elected to the House and Senate anymore. I actually think this is what will bring the USA down eventually.

Everyone on both political sides are so polarized that no one will give an inch or work together. Actually, either side just listens to their own talk shows that emphasize their formed opinion and never listens to a cross section of political views. I think this is true of most anyway. The media takes whatever they want to out of context and berates it—and I am talking about both parties here. The Left moves further left and the Right moves farther right. There doesn’t seem to be any middle ground anymore or people like me who seem to be in the middle and can see good and bad on both sides of the spectrum. I don’t ever vote for a political party but for the person that I think will do the best job. I think most just vote along party lines. Believe me, I am not saying I am right in this but this is just how I do it and I feel I am really the political minority.

I find it very interesting that the Left is OK with abortion but horrified by the thought of the USA being in a war. I also find it very interesting that the Right is horrified by abortion but is OK with going to war if it is needed. Both take away human life. I actually am old enough to understand that war is needed sometimes although I don’t like it and I also understand that abortion is needed sometimes even if I don’t like it.

Let me just say. I don’t like mixing religion with politics directly although I understand that if you are part of a certain religion that will help shape who you are morally or you picked that religion because it best exemplifies who you already are.

I don’t expect that others here will feel as I do as I know everyone has their own beliefs about such strong topics. My point here is—-What side would vote for a political candidate like me? Neither, I would guess, in any numbers so it just goes to my point of no Moderates in the Congress or House to work across party lines.

Nothing will get done again in the next four years in my opinion. Everyone will just want what they want and no compromises will be made for the good of the USA. I surely hope I am wrong!!

OK, all you people out there who are more politically well read than I am. Fire Away!! 🙂

i hear this stuff about moderates and tea party folks and on and on…

This baffles the snarf out of me….. we just lost control of our country, We have
been told… openly and right to the point that if your a hard worker and small
business person, your opinion does not count…if you believe in economic freedom
your living in the dark ages.

People are now saying gosh i did not vote because Romney was to moderate…
give me a break. You either want a free country or you dont…..

did you hear any democrate say, golly gee Obama voted 4 times not to allow
medical care to a child that survived abortion… he is a little to liberal for me???
did you hear any democrate say, wow America is full of small business people and
Obama is not for them…. maybe he is to much of a socialist…….????? did you
hear any democrates say you know,, we are over 16 trillion in debt and i understand
we are going broke and Obama still wants to spend more…. maybe i will wait for
a more moderate democrate to come alone…..????

They hate us as much as they hated bush and Reagan and any other business person or hard
worker that gets ahead,,,,, end of story
We can have a pitty party or an excuse party for the next 4 years and you will lose
again because the truth is simple…… they wanted a socialistic society more than we
wanted a free one… and there may well be more of them.

People say no more moderates next time it is a tea party candidate, republican candidate
and the democratic socialist party….. fine…. dems win in a land slide, tea party comes
in a distant 2nd and the republican party further third…..

Does losing by a lot more make you feel better????

Like the guy said, i cant remember who he was….. if we dont hang together we will
certainly hang alone.

They dont need a reason to vote against us….. and we cant even find a reason to vote
for us….

This nonsense is more than i can handle.

When a ship is sailing left or port, and you are on that ship. The Light house on the right seems to be moving farther right. Its a matter of relitivity.

The Demacratic party of the 60s was farther right than the republicans are now.

I may be wrong but I think we just saw the last election of any contest. If Obama does not apoint himself King by executive order and make voting aganst him a felony. Then buy the time he gets thru with this 4 years it wont be worth voting any way. Comunist China will be the next big capitalist country and our only salvation will be if they take us over, They may even export jobs over seas to Amerika ka ka. They have been there and they know what works and what does not. Too bad we forgot. Maybe if we ask them real nice they will let us keep our flag just for old time sake. I feel like pukeing………. 😥

Actually Get@Grip. your views are more in line with Libertarian views, as mine really are. I am totally a fiscal conservative and most people I know can’t believe that I actually watch "Morning Joe" in the morning, (a very liberal minded show) and Fox shows in the evening. I want to hear the other side.

As far as social issues like abortion, I was and maybe still am for legal abortion, but something happened to me recently that kind of makes me rethink my views. I met two people that are just fantastic people, hard working people, that if their mother decided to abort instead of, one giving their child up to an orphanage, and the other having the grandparents take care of the child would not be in this world. This makes me wonder.

Contraceptives, I just don’t think I should pay through my insurance payments for contraceptives. When I was sexually active as a younger man, well, the girl or I took care of things like that.

I again say that most people don’t know what is actually going on in this country, that our national debt is greater than our GNP and what that really means. The country spoke this week, and they said, I don’t care as long as I can get what I need from the government and the heck with the others.

Someone needs to come along who can articulate that it is better fend for your self and the WE can take care of ourselves without the government telling us through laws how much soda we can drink and how much salt to out on our meals.

This reminds me of a story that I might have posted before … I was in Pakistan on business about 15 years ago. As my driver was driving through town I saw things like children working instead of being in school, no traffic lights for a right or left hand turn, people selling chickens on the street without being regulated, etc … I said to the driver, "What is going on here?" His response to me was … "AND YOU THINK YOU LIVE IN A FREE COUNTRY!"….Think about it.

Dom I thought about it Did you want to move there then or are you thinking more about moving there now? That will tell you some thing about what you think about this USA. I like were I live just not the politics. Even tho it is HOT. My POOL GOT TO 106 THIS SUMMER AND IT IS NOT HEATED
Good Rolling. 😀 😀

Of course I wouldn’t want to live in Pakistan, but I can tell you that I have thought about living somewhere else. This is a great country but our freedoms and liberties are being systematically being removed. It is great that we can voice our opinions without the threat of being shot for treason, but certain unalienable rights to pursue personal liberties are being taken from us.

I do wonder what I would do or where I would go if I didn’t have the responsibilities that I have. Places do come to my mind but I won’t disclose them here. The idea of government getting bigger and bigger with no end in sight just turns my stomach. I am old enough now to long for the days past

I would love to see a viable 3rd Party, preferably Liberitarian.

I would also love to see a 3rd Party garner 5% or more of the vote, thus earning matching campaign funds for the next election.

Sad to say I’ve become quite cynical and am disgusted with both the Democratic and Republican parties. 🙁

My litmus test is whether or not the words, act, bill, law, campaign, etc., are in what I think are the best interests of our country.

While a convenient scapegoat, blaming the current chair-sitter in The Office of the President (Insert name here) is taking our eye off the ball. The sad fact is the President has largely become a mere figurehead with little power to change much of anything.

Be it Obama, Romney, Bush or Gore, et. al. before them, or the many other "career politician" candidates professing to be for or against this or that, i.e. "Obamney" Care, it is, in my opinion, simply measured and meaningless rhetoric.

The Republicans and Democrats will say anything and do whatever is needed to get elected, regardless of what is in our country’s best interests.

When love of country takes second fiddle to special interest influence and simply getting elected, something is very, very, VERY wrong.

I believe meaningful change will not take place until we somehow get rid of the enormous influence special interest groups wield over the greedy "career politicians" in both the corrupted Republican and Democratic parties.

The tail is wagging the dog.

I’ve got one word to start meaningful change: Congressional Term Limitations.

Ooops… I guess that’s three words… Oh well… 😉

Sorry to rant… Just my opinion and I’m probably wrong…

Timmer,

I hear you, but I’m don’t believe term limits is the answer.

That would IMHO just give the lobbys more power and influence. Unfortunately, I don’t know what the answer is though.

Two words, Fair Tax.

When polititians can no longer whore out the tax code, they would have to attend to the business they were elected to handle.

Hello Noah,

I’m not suggesting congressional term limits are THE answer to all political problems. However I do feel limits ending "career politicians" would start meaningful change in Washington DC…

I mentioned wishing for a viable third party. Campaign finance reform is something else that would help create change.

Being weary of most politician’s empty campagin promises, measured spin and time-wasting, mind-numbing rhetoric, the key word for me in all this is meaningful

Noah, I’m interested to learn your reasons and humble opinion why you think congressional term limitations would "…just give the lobbys more power and influence."

Would you care to elaborate on this?

Sally and I were friends with a state senator when we lived in Arkansas and Sally was going to serve as his campaign manager for the US senate. He eventually decided not to run.

One of the most direct man I ever knew. You always knew where he stood even if you didn’t agree with him. Arkansas was considering term limits for it state representatives and state senators. We often talked about that and Mike described what happens when a new guy is elected and how much there is to learn about how the system actually works. (as an aside, if you haven’t seen the movie Lincoln, it also illustrates the process)

There is a lot to learn from those who have been through it and if you don’t have someone to lead you, the best of you will make some mistakes, some of which may not be recoverable from. The lobbyist won’t have term limits even if others do.

Hey Dom,

You can come build a house on my ranch in Australia. I think that being on a huge island at the bottom of the globe will be the place once the rest of the world is one big European shit-fest!!!

Get rid of the federal imcome tax would be a good start. It is the worst curse our ancesters put on us. We need to constitutionally abolish the income tax and have a value added ( read sales) tax. I read a recent article that a 23% (seems high doesn’t it) on everything we purchase would allow us to eliminate the income tax, social security tax, medicare tax, franchise taxes, gas tax, etc. In other words tax what we spend. I guaranteed that the Bill Gates of this country would pay much more for a brand new Mercedes that I would for a used 2 or 3 year old Toyota of any model.

I am tired of so many citizens (and non citizens) of this country) earning money in a cash only basis and not reporting it and then filing for a federal tax refund because their so-called reported income is so low. They paid no tax and get money back through this tax credit. This would eliminate this so called underground economy that exist in out country. These people would pay some taxes with their purchases.

It will not happen but I do feel it would be a fairer tax than what we now have. Every one needs to pay some taxes and taxing what we spend would be a good start.

Secondly if the income tax is abolished it would get the feds out of our lives. I am so tired, as a self employed individual, as is Alligator Rose, of the never ending records I must keep to satisify the IRS. I have files that go back 10 years even if I only need less records.

Just a few thoughts.
