Craps

One Week with the new forum! What do you think?

Spread the love

Hello Folks:

Well, we’ve had a full week now with the new GTC forum, and so far it seems to be going fairly smoothly. There have been lots of questions and learning curve for users to get used to this radically new tool, but overall the important thing is it continues to serve up a great community for advantage craps players. Users are clearly logging in and posting, and the usually daily hive of activity is continuing.

I’ve replied to technical forum questions people have had so far, and have posted a few topics on specific issues in the announcements area:

http://www.goldentouchcasino.net/forum/viewforum.php?f=3

This includes spell checking, how to get e-mail notification on new posts, copying old posts over, adding fancy HTML-like tables and formatting, etc.

If there are other problems or suggestions users have, please feel free to reply to this post, or e-mail me directly.

The old forum is still live, but it will be going the way of the Dodo bird soon. So, if there are posts you want to salvage, get them copied over soon!

Dan I really like the new format. Nice touch when the package tells you about a new post to the discussion your writing on. allowing me to review someone elses post lets me change mine if called for. Really would like to have a spell checker though. Good job. Thanks Dan, Frank and Dom. πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

Really would like to have a spell checker though.

Ask, and you shall receive! It’s fairly easy to do this, simply by using the generic Google toolbar spell checker. See this thread:

http://www.goldentouchcasino.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=215

This works even in IE… just install the free Google toolbar, then when you’re editing in the edit box for a post, click the ‘Check’ google toolbar button. Spelling errors are highlighted, right click to edit and change words. Easy as pie!

If you use the Google Chrome browser, it’s built in, no need for the google toolbar. IE 9 may include spell checking (I don’t have it to check.)

How about increasing the data size for Avatars? I am having trouble finding images that small that will be accepted. All of my photoshop images will not get down to the 90×90 pixel size.

OK… I’ve increased it to 120×120. I don’t want to make it larger than that, or the image size will swamp the size of the posts themselves! The idea is for avatars to be iconic , not large pictures.

The new format is just great!

Takes a little getting used to, but gets easier and easier with each visit…

Thanks, Dan and to all who worked hard to get this up and running!

Thanks, that worked.

Hey Dice Pilot… your avatar is not showing up yet (seems to be in some odd state). Maybe, try adding it again in the User Control Panel.

Like anything new, it just takes a while to get use to.

I cant get the Search to act right.

Hmmm… I hadn’t tried it, and indeed, something is not right with the search function. Thank you for noting it!

I’ll get on that next week for sure, and get it working. I’m away for a few days, back Monday.

Don’t really care for it.

Ok… what don’t you like? Can you provide any feedback on what is different, and what would make it better?

The board is just different and I know a lot of hard work was put into it. (I’ve been a part of two teams implementing messaging boards and I can tell you it’s not as easy as you think) While I’m never one to like change, at least this board doesn’t take forever to load up. The other would take as long as 10 minutes. (And no, it wasn’t my computer because other boards I belong to are very fast, seconds)

I’m more for content. Unfortunately, with everyone bring over old posts, it’s just not interesting to read right now. Like a few others I know, I’ve just gotten tired of trying to look through the noise for the true recent posts.

I did post something about a week ago. An hour and a half later it was on the end of page two, page one and most of page two was full of re-posts from the older site. I deleted my post. I guess that currently sums up my feelings overall.

If we could go back, and I know we can’t, I just thought it would have been better and more readable if the older posts were in a separate forum. (and I miss the spell checker too)

Agreed, and done! I created an ‘Archive’ section for old posts. Users can post them there now, going forward.

I cant get the Search to act right.

This is now fixed… please retry the Search feature (upper right), and it should work now.

Wow, thank you Dan!

The new site is not as easy on the eyes; the background color of the old site made it easier to scroll topics, scrolling the new site requires more concentration and topics don’t jump out as easily as the old site. I think the color of the new site looks washed out. Hopefully time will make it easier to use. TheUsualSuspect, Semper Fi carry on

I’m working on a new color scheme, that is more inline with the old forum.

Stay tuned… it’s coming!

Thanks Dan, it takes an in creditable amount of talent and knowledge to do what you have achieved with the new site. I hope I didn’t sound harsh with my assessment of your accomplishment. TheUsualSuspect, Semper Fi carry on

All good! Thank you, and everyone, for the feedback and input to date. Please keep those comments and suggestions coming… now is the time for them, while I’m active coding the new forum. A few months from now may mean your suggestions get punted onto a very long todo list!
