Great what happened this year? Last year a GTC student got into an aergument with a dealer at a casino we, including Frank and Dom like to play at. I hope this didn’t happen again. I am sure that by now everyone who is out there knows what happened. No names neccessary but I would like to know what happened. I am confident that if Frank and Dom think it is neccessary they will post something appropriate.

More than just a couple of people have in the past mentioned the high (for them) price of GTC classes. I believe explanations were offered as to why that was so (room rental, equipment storage, instructors’ fees, maintaining website, ect.).
The classes were never cancelled because of that.
So a couple of people complain about the price of the party and spoil the party for ALL the others who wanted to attend?? Shouldn’t the plans have stayed as originally stated, and whoever didn’t want to attend didn’t need show up?

When the Crap started over the party Frank cancelled it rather than go thru another like the past. The main complainer got his way.
I think "we", collectively, tend to think of GTC as a Club. And then anything GTC the company does is forgotten maybe even forbidden. The business part is pushed aside and any thought of making a profit no matter the size is blasphemy. I know in the past I too have thought of GTC more as a Social grouping, Fraternity it you prefer. That just isn’t the case and we need to remember that when talking about pricing. Frank and the rest didn’t start this Co. with the idea of going broke offering their knowledge and time for nothing.

However, I don’t think it dims the organization’s objectives because if it did, the party wouldn’t be the first thing to be affected by it, and it wouldn’t be the last.
Demand+feasibility+profit should outweigh the pressure coming from only a couple of people.

What knowledge was being offered at the anniversary party?
If just two people were making a stink about it, why not let them go without while the rest of us enjoyed ourselves?
Are these the same two people that complained after the WCC (ostensibly a casino event, and not a dinner celebration)?

It got real ugly and cost Frank and several others friendships. I Remember Frank announcing that there would never be another GTC sponsored event like that. It took several years to convince Frank to host another and that almost degenerated into another donnybrook after the fact.

Thanks for posting what happened stephen. Every time I take a class or attend a meet and greet there is somebody or somebodys complaining about cost or something else silly like the food or Frank’s standup material. I feel that every class I have taken has helped me improve and my 401 G shows it. It’s a shame that things like this happen. It’ always easy to find things to complain about and I haven’t seen a busness yet that does’t have customers that complain constantly.I don’t think anyone in GTC is getting rich off these classes but my life has been enriched by the things I have learned and even more by the friends I have made. I just hope the managment doesn’t get too frustrated with this stuff and close the doors.

I don’t recall who raised the stink about the first WCC. The point I was making is that GTC is entitled to recoup their cost and make a profit regardless of what you and I think. Classes, tables, throwing/receiving stations, dice, hats or events. And your exactly right if the price is not to your liking the choice is simple. However, it gets all played out on these pages the grumbling, complaining and accusations of over pricing.
Frank didn’t want to go thru that again and chose not to. Yes the rest of us who found the price reasonable lose out, and the complainer has the satisfaction of knowing he cause the cancellation. One will tell you your just to stupid to understand the economics. But they were his economics not ours. What it comes down to for the rest is we didn’t get to make the decision for ourselves. Someone else got to make it for use, and that wasn’t Frank. He and GTC bear no blame here.
It’s past now and recriminations won’t change the facts or bring back the opportunity to celebrate. One can only hope that when the next event is announced, if there is another ever, these individuals will have gone the way of the Dodo bird and can’t act as spoilers again.

The thing I found most offensive is that just recently the person who ruined the party for everyone else said he was glad that he did. That seems odd, if not psychologically unbalanced to take pleasure in the pain or distress of others. The Germans call it Schadenfreude.

I wouldn’t call it blame. I’d call it a choice. After cleaning up the thread and deleting what it considered objectionable (the reason I never saw it to begin with), GTC had the choice to keep the announcement, go ahead with the renting of the room, and provide everyone who wanted to go with what promised to be a royal good time. Unless I’m wrong, the "mission abort" button was never within reach of the complainers.
Outrage and a sense of regret for the lost opportunity would be understandable either way.
This empathy for Frank is emasculating—casts him as a weak businessman, ever so ready to be victimized, and gives the complainers power they certainly don’t have.

"Scapegoating" was the word that came to mind when I saw this thread. You’re right, though, Schadenfreude is a sick thing.
