Hi there all,
I just got my forum access today and am new to this whole concept of dice controlling.
I watched the History Channel video yesterday on the Dominator, and I was just blown away. I have loved craps for years and didn’t even know this technique was possible. I related to the Chris P. gentleman in the video because I too am a mechnical engineer. So now I want to dive in an attempt to learn this technique.
I just ordered the new book Shoot to Win and will read that when it arrives. I have already started looking on Ebay and Amazon for some practice setups. I haven’t seen anything great yet and I don’t think I am prepared to buy a full table.
So, I ask you members, what is the best advice you can give a new person? If you could go back and start fresh, what would you do first?
What are some of the best practice setups to buy/build? Does anybody sell practice setups on this forum for a reasonable price? I would like to absorb all of your knowledge and do well at this quest. I just need a plan of attack.
Thanks so much for your helpful words.
Danny

You can buy throwing and receiving stations through GTC that are great quality. I am sure Dom would be happy to give you more information about these if you contact him.
First of all, I would go to the section here called "GTC Wisdom" and read these posts as they are full of information on dice control.
Second, as a new player and even when not a new player you can never practice your grip too much. You can always throw the dice onto a bed until you get your practice set up ready to go. Mostly you are just noting how your dice look in the air and making corrections to get them to fly and rotate together. It is amazing how just very small changes in the fingers or thumb position can make the dice look totally different. Also, you are just getting comfortable with picking up the dice and your comfort level with them positioned in your hand properly.
Of course, the biggest thing if you are serious is to take a GTC class as you will not believe how good the instructors are and how much you will learn from one weekend with them.
Good luck on your journey in dice control! 😎

For some reason the posts of earlier months are not there.
When I first got on this site I went back and read ALL posts before posting but that was just me. It did give me answers to a lot of questions before asking them .Just a thought. I know it is a lot of reading.

If I respond to this posting it would involve telling him to go to a site where he could buy identical equipment for a price 34.2% what GTC charges. This would damage your bottom line. I am a non-paying guest at this point and am thankful for the wonderful information Frank has enabled me to learn from thru his books. A 2nd item is a similar point of expensiveness contention. I guess my advice is: "investigate all internet options *very* thoroughly. I am a person who has a monthly income thru Social Security of only $778/month. I deeply frown on businesses that inflate prices to "all that the traffic will bear." And yet, here too I sit deeply grateful for the information disseminated in his books (very ok, price-wise) and the free tips posted to the public by GTC. So I will kill all advice directing any person to a competitor site.Just be very very thorough and you will save well greater than half on at least 2 major item categories that a future dice influencer would desire. The one to one classes may very well be worth their $1500, I have no opinion on them except to say that I would sign up myself if I was not a poor person.
That’s all from me. Those who miss reading this will find I will never repeat this warning. You catch it or not…like luck.

I did go on inter net for chips. Even building a table yourself is costly. But I have more time then money. ( I hope ).

You may want to check out Dave Ramsey, he is a radio financial consultant giving good old fashioned advice to people to get their financial lives together.
Just my opinion, I hope this helps you.

Since you directed this at me I will answer this …. you are right, if you did mention a competitor your response would have been removed per the rules of this site.
Second, since the majority of your advice is to search other websites for information and less expensive product makes me wonder a few things.
Third, you can buy any product that is produced for less money, from a hotdog, to a car, but the old saying of you get what you pay for certainly pertains to the products that GTC manufacturers and sells. Anyone that has purchased a receiving or throwing station, half table, or full table from us will tell you that our standards of quality are second to none.

Lylastar:
Why do you cast a negative comment regarding the pricing of this organization items when you have no clue to the quality and workmanship of the products? I hate buying cheap crap that falls apart after short term use. I would rather pay a higher amount for a quality product made in the USA than get sucked into the China Made "Wall Mart" mentality that this country so focused on.
I purchased my GTC full sized table because I wanted quality that was going to last a lifetime. I use it five days a week and the construction is amazing. It is so strong that I jumped underneath of it during a moderate earthquake we had in California. See attached pic.
Lylastar, enjoy your free membership to the boards but you are way out of line. 👿 😈 😯

I have Frank’s newest book coming here soon. I was given a few other ebooks by a friend and I have found some useful videos online.
I guess the homework has started but the practice is about to start.
So would it be expected to setup the tossing station the distance desired from the receiving station to emulate a position on the table you would throw from ? ie, next to the stick man. I figured that would be the case so that you practice the exact throw length you wish to perform.
One more question. The hardway set was recommended for new people over the V set. Does the name alone indicate that more hardways are rolled with this set than statistics should allow? I ask this because the videos recommended knowing how to bet and mainly when the house edge is small. Hardway bets are obviously terrible bets in general for house edge. But, if the hard way set with dice control yields more hard ways rolled than statiscially normal, it would then seem that they would make a killing if bet and possibly pressed.
Thanks for all the replies.
Dominator: I agree with the quality assessment you stated. But, I don’t think you are selling your products with a mimimal mark-up to encourage everyone to buy these products from you on these boards. However, this is your site, so you can charge whatever you want and I am ok with that.

Are you that good an on-axis shooter that you have passed the three Smart craps tests?

One hit I can give you is that depending on were you are going to put it can make a difference. I put it together and then raised it so I could wash off my patio so the height is off a inch now. Also need to center pyramids. That way there is no seam in the middle of table. Which will give you 2 seams on each side.
If you look at Pics that may get you more interested in a full table . I built it were it stands on my patio.
Hope you have fun building it or the practice rig.
Good Rolling. 😀

What is it this morning? Now I am a BIG CAPITALIST that wants to get margin on what we sell. Danny, you have no idea what we pay our carpenter for our rigs. If you know anything about retail markup you would know that most stores need to get 54 to 62 percent markup on their products. GTC, doesn’t even work near those type of markups.
Again I love the way someone says something that makes me bad in someway and then say … I am OK with that.
Man, no wonder this country is going to hell. Now GTC needs to sell their products at a 10 percent markup or no markup at all so we can "encourage" everyone to buy our products. Did someone say "fair share"? Now it is OUR responsibility to make sure that that everyone can gets a throwing station and receiving station. Did someone say "health Care".
I can’t take it anymore!

tries to instill what the free enterprise should be. It ain’t free if they tell us to do something one way, and if it does not agrree with their thinking it is wrong.
And Dom, it must be the moon thing or the food that the attacks have begun.
Posted by: fscobe on October 11, 2012, 5:25 pm
Be happy Dom keeps the prices as low as he does.
And no one is forced to buy our stuff. If no one bought our products, we wouldn’t sell our products.

I drive a chev. so I built a chev table and I am happy with it.I was just happy that my wife said OK. I think she would have said some else about the RR of table that GTC SELLS.
I think that it is one of the best tables I have seen out there. Also most do not show you how it is built ahead of time.

Next: There actually isn’t "free expression" on this site when it comes to some things, other products included (except if we want those other products mentioned). We are pretty liberal with our "rules" but still the bottom line is our bottom line.

"fscobe" wrote: I’ll answer Danny P. The reason we don’t want other advertising on our site is similar to us putting an ad in a newspaper but also including our competitors’ stuff in that ad. We pay for the site and we want what we want when we want it. That makes sense to me. If you mention a product or give links, we are paying for this site (and this site isn’t cheap) and giving away free advertising.

2) Read AT LEAST 3 of the books. Read them again. Highlight everywhere. Read them again until you get this new way of playing in your brain. Keep ‘m as a resource for later.
3) Practice thousands of times (like 4-5000 throws). You need to be betting chips and leaning over and holding the dice and up on your toes and throwing thousands of times IN YOUR HOME and you still have a long way to go.
4) Go to a class AFTER your home practice. Some will say before so that you don’t have to break bad habits. Nonsense! You need to be somewhat competent so you will know what you need to tweak.
5) Get a dice setter from GTC. It will help you. It will take you months of using it until your fingers and nerves are used to holding the dice correctly.
6) Go live. Find $5 tables to practice. Follow the 5 count IT WILL SAVE YOU! Don’t Question the masters like so many others. Dom and Frank know EXACTLY what they are doing.
7) Understand this way is work. It’s not funny, happy, smiley face high five drunken feel good craps. This is you against the house. You don’t follow the way, you will lose.
8) Keep a record. Understand you will lose more times than win. When you are winning, and you have been doing it for long enough, you will FEEL that is is time to press.
9) Learn how to press and when and how much.
10) I am sorry, did I forget THE FIVE COUNT WILL SAVE YOU!! Without it you will be eaten alive. I have been consistently the last man standing when everyone else blows out. I was at one table where these people lost at least $150K over 5 hours. I only had a profit of $18. So what, I had a great time and everyone else completely blew out on one of the worst table days I ever saw in my life.
11) Learn the comp game. Just read about it. I have gotten over 8K in room, flight and food comps since I started. Yes that’s nice to have. Some casino’s really don’t cater to craps players. You’ll have to learn which ones on your own.
12) Good luck. I hope you listen, work hard and 2 years from now you will be in a very rare elite group. It’s fun, different, and kind of the trip club for me. 😎

Great post. I read and agree with just about every thing you said.
But, I’d like for you to share for me if you would more about #11. I get great comps from The Palms and also sometimes Cosmo. But, i have never had them offer me flight credits or anything like that. Just some nice rooms and even a small suite recently at Palms Place. What casino do you frequent that has great craps comps? I don’t live in Vegas so I would specifically go to play at this casino while in town if you let me know.
Thanks.
