i have a stupid question but i am going to ask it anyway. They placed 4
new machines in our local casino 6 months ago. They are penny machines
and people play them alot, i do play them at times, but my question is do
they or can they set machines to pay differently at different levels of play.
these machines have a counter in them and you can check the payouts
since it was here and over the past month. I have a friends wife they also
plays them several times a week and she has seent he same thing…. If you
play the minimum .50 you get some bonus offers and maybe win up to $30
or so,,,, when you bet $1.50-$2.5 you have to put in $100-$200 to get any
bonus and then it is most often $6.25 or so. This has been going now for
6 months…. the machins says the higher bonus it has paid is just over
$200…
So my question is are they set to pay less out if you increase the amount
you play…. people play penny machines by the slot tables and we are
amazed at how often they pay fairly large bonus’s a number of times
while at the table which is hardly ever more than an hour or two at a time
how can one group of machines never had paid a bonus over $200 ever seen
by any one that plays them several times a week

There are no stupid question…..
When you say you play at a higher level, are you just playing more lines and/or credits per line or is it a multi-denominational machine (penny, nickel, quarter, etc.) and you are playing a higher denomination?
If you are playing more lines and/or more credits per line, then the machine should have the same return percentage. If you need to play so many lines/credits per line to active some bonus, then you may want to do that.
If you are playing a higher denomination, in general (!), you may see a slightly higher return.
The problem with anecdotal evidence you have been gathering, is random is a very long time and you have most like not even scratched the surface.
