A few thoughts from the CT seminar ——- Jezzzzzzzzz —– will all the GTC students ever learn

Spread the love

Hi all

This seminar really had so many students that were eager to learn. From the very first day they showed enthusiasm and as the days progressed I felt that this group would be in that top 10% of our students that really make a ton of money by fooling the GTC way. On Sunday their tosses all looked great. I really felt that we got through to even one what it takes to be an advantage player – playing only when your spot is open, and betting properly. On Sunday morning one of the students told of his Saturday night exploits and said that he followed our betting and throwing to a “T” and he won $2400! WOW!

For the most part, the above paragraph I hope is true, but after Sunday night, I just don’t know. I received the email below from a student that attended the seminar and below that is what I wrote back to the student. Names have been omitted and this was an email just to me. So disappointing:

Student’s email:

Dear Dom

I didn’t have time to write this out on the comments sheet so I am emailing you

Your practice tables and rigs are are all set for 12’ however most of the tables at the local casino were 14’. For me this like throwing down a football field as I wasn’t used to the distance especially if you are shooting from stick left 2 positions. By the time my dice reached the end of the table there was little to no control left because you have to really launch them to reach the back wall.

Would be nice if you had at least one larger table and addressed techniques for controlling your throw on larger tables. Unfortunately, I did not have a successful run at the casino I stayed at lol.

From me to the student:

Thank you for the feedback!

Our tables are set for 12 feet because like I said in class over and over again you only want to play to your advantage. That means if your spot isn’t open you don’t shoot and if a casino has 12 and 14 foot tables and you have been practicing for 12 foot you don’t play on a 14 foot table.

I only played on the 12 foot tables while I was at the casino. Actually, if you take SR1 or SL1 on a 14 foot table you are only adding 1.5 feet to your throw. From your email, it sounds to me that you played maybe from the 2 position or farther back …. a big No No if you want to truly be an advantage player. I actually saw one of our good students from the weekend on Sunday night shoot from the end of a table even though it was an empty table! I saw him do that twice at two different tables! Jezzzzzz……….

I can’ tell you how disappointing it is to spend two days trying to get students to understand and do the right thing and on the last night throw everything out that we teach.

Maybe all this is why you didn’t have a profitable weekend. Just saying and please take this in the way that I am only trying to help

My thoughts today:

I guess people attend our seminars and spend all that tuition money with the hopes that after two days they will become great shooters and make a ton of money. That just isn’t going to happen people if they don’t follow our teachings and it isn’t going to be immediate. It takes practice and discipline.

But it truly is so disappointing as a teacher who thinks that he is getting it across to everyone and then to see someone just do the opposite on the very last night of the class.

Sad

Opinions welcome

Dom

Well said Dom.

Dom this is one of the reasons only 10% may make good shooters . it is hard to get them to do what you teach even if they listened and remembered just some of what the teachers said .

I learned it the vary first day of class before it began  . A former student came by and talked to my teacher . He was telling him how much he made  on the prop bets . As I looked at the teacher I could see that he was not impressed at all . We both left it at that and said nothing .

That weekend I did not shoot till the classes were over . It is hard just to get all that is covered in the classes . I did not take good notes . But have learned a lot since then .

Good Rolling.

So right Dom.  Playing a 12 foot table is the best for any student who who has taken only one class and perhaps an additional one refresher.  If you take several classes you might ask an instructor to call Dom over to look at your throw.  If Dom is in agreement we can move the throwing station over 12 inches so you will be at stick one for a 14 foot table.  But do keep Dom in the loop.

We know that Rose and Doc very very (add a few more verys) seldom play a 14 footer.  Simply one of the best ways to beat the casino.

Boy, it gets worse. I got an email this morning from a student at the seminar that was only able to attend Saturday and he said he played Saturday night and lost and was wondering why he didn’t have any rolls greater than 6 after a day of learning! Jezzzzz!

Wow, it’s like buying a set of golf clubs, taking a lesson and being upset that you didn’t  shoot under par the next day…..I believe the saying is Practice Makes Perfect !!!!

Brywood–a good analogy.  We would add to your statement “practice makes perfect” what Mr. Finesse used to say–perfect practice makes perfect.  Thanks for reminding everyone what he always said.

That is heart breaking as an instructor or coach, to put all the time and energy in to teaching and training someone and watch them throw it all out the window, then have the nerve to complain when all they need to do is listen, follow advice, practice and it will come.

Its a journey.

I observed a shooter at an empty table shooting with a whale on the other end throwing thousands of dollars on the shooter.  He was being loud with the “box”demanding to be allowed to make his bets.

The box could not refuse the whale I guess with all that money. It was entertaining to say the least. The shooter had been throwing from stick left 2 position before the whale arrived using near perfect technique.

I could not stay to watch the rest of the show since I had to pick up the wife and head home. The whale and the shooter took off as fast as the wind heading off in the same direction so there was nothing else to watch anyhow.

Let this be a lesson to you kids.  Stick to your game and focus on stick left or right. Your hard work and dedication will be rewarded.

This game is played by some strange ways . Like the guys that come up and bet the field for one roll . I have seen it done with 5.00 to 1,000.00 . The crew just hates those players . They never tip .

Good Rolling.

I’ve read Vince Lombardi’s Biography. Vince Lombardi was the long term Coach of the Green Bay Packers.  They were THE force in the NFL during Lombardi’s time at the helm.  Lombardi says it is a little differently.  Lombardi says: “Practice does not make perfect.  Practice makes PERMANENT.  PERFECT practice makes permanent.”

This is why GTC strongly recommends getting a throwing and receiving station, get casino quality dice, and, practice exactly the way you would throw at a live table in your favorite Casino. I go so far as to wear the same shoes I will use when playing in the Casino, to replicate as much of the Casino environment at my home as possible   If the only time someone has dice in their hand, and throwing is when they are at their favorite Casino, it will definitely be a steep up-hill climb.

From my first day of class to the present, I threw/throw from SL2 because my home casino only opens their 14′ until later in the day and I play mornings.  That was accepted as it was going to be my primary spot.  So my SL2 practice on GTC and my own 12′ tables gives me the practice that I need to have the edge.

If you see me practicing in the classroom, it’ll always be from SL2 on the 12′.  If I play, it’s the spot I seek out if I’m somewhere with 12′ tables.  And with COVID, it actually came in handy as the SL1 positions were closed

The Casino where I began my Craps game had more people playing the Don’t Come like crazy.

Card players would walk up and throw $1000. in chips down on the Don’t Come looking to make quick money. Worst idea ever when a Golden Touch Grad is at the table. Want to see a grown man pee his pants when you throw the point on the second roll back to back? LOL

And like Finisher stated about people just walking up and throwing money on the field. Good Casinos won’t allow this and will call NO BET.

I sincerely want to thank Dom and the entire GTC crew for doing such a great job at the CT seminar.

My game has improved so much. My results at the tables after taking the class have been polar opposites. Before taking the class I would mix losing days with winning days playing at the Casino. However, after taking the class I’ve been to the Casino 4 times and won 3 times, and broke even once.

I know the sample size is small, however, I can feel that my throw is spot on after taking the class. I haven’t even had time to practice more than a few hundred tosses on my throwing station and I’m still so much better than I was before.

The two most important things I took away from the class is how to throw properly, and how to bet on other shooters. These two have been the reason why I’ve won so much money my last 4x at the Casino.

I’ve felt that GTC was the “non plus ultra” school of dice and I’m glad I finally took a class. GTC made a believer out of me, and I would recommend the school to anyone that wants to improve their game.

The only way to play and win is the GTC way.

Dan, thank you for the kind compliments concerning the instruction.  Dom and all the instructors work as hard as they can to get each student to be the best he can be.  BUT there is nothing like having good practice techniques to cement in good habits when playing in the casino.

Keep up the good work in practice and we hope to see you in a class in the future.

Thank you for the kind words. All my instructors are the best and they all want all our students to be the best!

I got this in an email this morning and it really hit home and pertains to what you spoke of:

From the NCSA athletic recruiting:

The hardest things to do as a coach is to get players to do the things they don’t want to do in order to achieve what they want
