Hi everyone! I just attended the Atlantic City seminar too. I wanted to bring up the problem that I’m running into at my local Casinos here. When I’m standing stick left one, after I’ve made several numbers and a point or two, the stickman or the Boxman brings to my attention that I’m shooting with my arm in front of the stickman! Watching other shooters (random rollers) throw afterwards, has no verbal warning given to them. I’m ready to start practicing stick one and 1/2 just to get them to stop hassling me. What advise can you give on this issue?

Markenecki, you’ll find that quite often, the random throwers get much less scrutiny than most dice setters. It sucks, but it comes with the territory. The art of dice influence, done properly, allows the player to play with an advantage, very similar to a blackjack player counting cards. The house advantage, and/or house edge, is what helps keep the lights on in the casino. Losing that edge means money lost, and let’s face it, casinos weren’t built on the backs of winners. The house edge through all the various games pays the bills.

Now, onto your issue of your arm in front of the stick man. There is a rule that a player may not cross the centerline of the table when throwing. The.reasons i have heard are twofold. First, it allows for an advantage by closing the distance to the back wall, the second, is that it’s a security measure to prevent someone from snagging chips from in front of the stick person while their head is turned following the dice. Whatever the reason, i have rarely heard it being enforced in the places I play, but that doesn’t mean it can’t be an issue.

Maybe the instructors will have something else to offer, but maybe when you’re throwing, try sliding over an extra inch, or two, when you’re at SL1. But if that doesn’t correct the issue, might i recommend giving SL2 a whirl. My preference, I actually like SL2 more than SL1. I don’t feel as cramped in relation to Stick and the distance to the back wall. Also, SL2 on a 12′ table is the equivalent to SL1 on a 14′ table, regarding distance. Finally for me, although I have gotten way better at it, sometimes, I have a tendency to throw with a bit too much Oomph. Doesn’t seem as big a deal from SL2.

We all.need to find and adapt what works for each of us.

Markenecki–don’t let this bother as it is something that will occur from time to time. The reason that has been given to Rose and Doc on several occasions is that the stick man must watch the dice at all times and never take his eyes off the dice–even when they are flying through the air. If you each in front of the stick man he can’t see the dice. Once the dice stop and he uses the stick to bring the dice to the middle of the table in front of the box man, he can take his eyes off the dice work on the prop bets in the middle of the tale if one of them is rolled.

Solution, simply move over about half a step or so, say you are sorry and you should be ok. We always thank the person who tells us not to go over the middle. Along this line if one or both dice do not hit the back wall before the the pit critters can say anything say something like–"darn it the dice should always hit the back wall." Or words to that effect.

True story, in Reno one time the pit critter told doc that if one or both dice did not hit the back wall it would be a no roll. Doc responded "Ok, but if this happens and a 7 is rolled I expect it to be a no roll as well!" You guessed a couple of rolls later he was watching very closely and one dice did not hit the back wall. Be fore the dice had stopped, he called it a no roll–yelling "no roll, no roll." You guessed it, it was a 7 and Doc kept the dice. Left the table several when I did finally had my 7 out. I was up a little and he was not happy.
