SmartCraps program

Spread the love

Hello
I am new to the game, but already hooked.
I started digging in and have only 250 throws logged in.
A few questions
1. How may throws do I need to get a good read on how I am doing?
2. What do the percentages mean on the PRO 1,2,3. I have pro1 of 16.32, pro2 31.07% and pro3 of 28.26 and SRR of 7.01.

I appreciate any suggestions.
Thanks for your time and expertise.

@ 5000 Throws Starts validating your SRR… So you have a ways to go…

I guess I got to get to work.

According to SmartCraps documentation, the percent score being referred to is the probability of a random roller duplicating the same result. In order to pass the smart craps Pro1, 2 or 3 tests, the probability has to be below 1%. In other words, for a SmartCraps pass, the probability that you are really controlling the dice is better than 99%, which is significant statistical evidence of dice controll. The probabilities of 16%, 31% and 28% stated in the post are below 50% and therefore indicate better than random, but not sufficient statistical evidence that the dice are being controlled. You will more than likely pass the SmartCraps tests if you continue to add rolls until the SmartCraps scores are less than 1%. Keep up the good work, it sounds like you are off to a great start.

Thanks for the explanation. That helps, it is exciting to be able to track my results and see where I need to work.
Talk to you when I get to 5k

Update
I am at 531 rolls and my Pro1 is down to 1.31% but the SRR is only 5.90.
It seems like the sevens are the one axis 3/4 and 2/5 with the HW set. Very few 1/6’s.
Sorry if my questions are too basic, but will the program give me dice sets to avoid the 7’s if I keep the dice on axis???

Thanks for the help.

Posted by: bminus1 on October 9, 2019, 12:09 pm

It sounds like you are really improving due to your effort, but don’t get too concerned with the scores at this stage. It might be better to wait to enter results in SmartCraps until the rolls total 2000 or so, when there is a more substantial statistical base. I know that there is a strong desire to see visible improvement, but please be patient. Also, don’t be too dismayed with the SRR at this point in your journey. In the book "Casino Craps – Shoot to Win!", Chapter 3 or 4, I think, a phenomena called the "double pitch 7 anomaly" is explained in detail. If you do not have this book, you may want to get one – it was and still is a great help to me in my quest. The double pitch phenomena comes from developing axis control with little or no pitch control – this is a natural progression in the skill development because as you increase your axis control, there is an increased probability for double pitches (2-5s and 3-4s). As you progress, pitch control will improve if you are able to keep the dice synchronized as they progress to the back wall – this is primarily a grip issue. Again, please do not get discouraged this early in your journey – this is a quest, not a destination.

Wanted to send an update, I am at just under 2000 throws and my Pro1 is .64%, SRR is 6.05%.
My Pro2 is 21% and Pro3 is 44%.
Looking forward to attending the next seminar for some expert coaching.
I am feeling comfortable with my on axis throws and look forward to fine tuning everything.
Thanks for your feedback.

Hello

Working on my throws.
Have a question, I am at 2223 throws.
My Pro1 is down to .26% and pro2 is dropping down to 4.37%.
The questions is with Pro3, it is at 46.50% and does not seem to be going down.
SRR is still at 6.05%.

I am looking forward to attending my first seminar as soon as they are set up for 2020.
Any suggestions on Pro3 or should I just keep pushing to 5000 throws?

Thanks

CliffM1

It sounds like you have made significant improvement based on the Pro1 and Pro2 scores. The Pro3 score is a double pitch issue as mentioned earlier. The double pitches will hopefully be less of a problem as you acquire pitch control. Question: Is SmartCraps indicating a player advantage (positive percent number) and recommending dice sets? If so, what is the advantage?

A suggestion: this may be a time to get some actual casino experience with your recently acquired skill (particularly if you have a positive player advantage according to SmartCraps) before you go much further in your quest. I say this because when I reached the stage in my quest that you seem to be experiencing, I visited a casino to experience my new skill in actual conditions. I learned two (2) things right away:
1.) the stick person (I shoot from SL1 exclusively) was an interference and distraction that I did not have on my practice rig at home – I had to accommodate the stick person and learn to deal with the distraction.
2,) the table conditions, i.e., rail height and width, layout, dice reaction, etc. were different than my practice rig and affected my stance and toss.
Because of these differences, my toss had to be modified and I had to learn to deal with stick people and other players as well.

A relatively vacant $5 table with 1 or 2 odds will be ideal for this purpose to minimize risk but still gain valuable experience. Please do not get discouraged and I hope that sharing my experience will be helpful.

Thanks for the feedback.

I did go to the casino today. I threw about 8 times on a $5 table. Ended up the day down about $200.
I have been avoiding the casinos. I have only been playing craps for about 9 months and really wanted to devote my time to learning the right way.
That is why I am trying to get as much out of GTC as I can. I am hoping to save a lot of heartache and money by not developing bad habits.

With that said, I am not really sure how to use smartcraps. I record rolls and look at the Pro numbers. As far as all the other things it does, I don’t have a clue.
I do see the dice sets it suggest. One question on dice setting: Should I set aside time to practice throw with the suggested sets, with practice money? I am assuming I should not put the dice setting throws into the roll recorder, as I am only recording the hardway sets I throw.

I really need to attend the next seminar to learn more betting strategies. I use the 5 count on all the other players at the table, but still generally lose money on the other people at the table. I have found the stick people are not a problem when I throw from SL1, as do I most of the time. I put a pass line bet for the dealers and they seem to leave me alone.

I have noticed on the casino tables my dice have more energy. I am looking forward to learning more about how to address this and other table issues at the classes.

Thank you again for taking the time out to give me some pointers.

Also, I am not sure how to use the players edge feature.
After throwing last nights practice rolls, this is where my numbers are:
Pro1 = .12% Pro2 = 6.56% Pro3 = 47.50% and SRR = 5.99 at 2276 throws.
the potential players edge is .525598%, what does that mean?

Thanks

Posted by: bminus1 on November 18, 2019, 4:44 am

The player edge for a passline bet (the default in Smartcraps) tells what advantage you have on the casino for the free odds bet selected (default is 1x) using the dice sets recommended . For example, for a $5 pass line bet with say 1x odds ($10 on the table at risk also called ‘spread’) the house advantage for a random roller is 0.85% with an expected loss of $0.85 on the $10 bet. With a player advantage of the 0.53%, as stated above, smart craps calculated the advantage player will win $0.53 on the same $10 bet using the recommended dice sets. Of course, this is on average over the long run of many, many hands played. Because of the variation in results (this is a ‘semi-random’ game even for the advantage player), almost anything can happen in a single session from wins of 10 times the spread to losses of 10 times the spread or more. 0.53% advantage is a positive advantage, but not much of one.

IMHO, you need to continue practice to gain more pitch control so that you get more primaries (hard ways with the hard way set, i.e., 2-2. 3-3. 4-4. 5-5) and less double pitches (2-5s, 3-4s). If you can increase your skill level to pass all 3 pro scores (less than 1%) you will be a force to reckon with. However, this is not easy or quickly obtained. By passing pro1 in Smartcraps so early in your quest, you have demonstrated winning potential. Patience and PERFECT practice is required. Perfect practice makes perfect – not just practice. You are wise not to develop bad habits which is very easy to do and they can be difficult to undo. In my experience, a review of basics, i.e., stance, grip, arm swing, release, launch angle, etc. periodically is essential. I view the GTC "Eight Physical Elements of Dice Control" videos from time to time and I have found this to be very helpful in correcting bad habits that have crept in.

Variation in casino table conditions (bounciness or reaction of the dice) is a another vast topic that can affect your advantage dramatically. IMHO, you need not get too concerned about that at this stage of your quest. I understand that this subject is covered in the GTC Advanced Class so you may want to keep that in mind for the future. What is most important is developing a sound and consistent toss that is automatic with little or no thinking. Keep on keeping on, and to paraphrase the Captain, it is not easy, but it will be worth it.

PS: The hardway set MUST be used for entries to Smartcraps.

Thanks for the coaching, I focused on my grip and trying to keep the dice from twisting.
I threw 50 practice throws and hit 18 hard ways. It is amazing if you do the right things you get the right results.

Thanks again for taking the time to pass along your wisdom.

Posted by: bminus1 on November 19, 2019, 8:01 pm

CliffM1

I am glad that you are benefiting from my experience – both good and bad. 18 primaries (hard ways with the hard way set) out of 50 is 36% primaries compared to 11.1% for a random roller. That is great and demonstrates excellent pitch control which is very powerful. Please remember about the variation and that 50 throws is a small sample. My experience has been that very subtle changes in the throw, especially the grip can make a huge difference in results. Bad habits will tend to creep in over time and I must review the basics often. It is most important that the dice strike the layout flat and therefore bounce straight into the back wall. As you continue to improve, you may want to delete the earlier entries from your Smartcraps entry sample when you were less experienced – keeping a 2000 roll sliding sample of the latest results for Smartcraps. This will be helpful in being up to date with your skill level.

Looking forward to meeting everyone in a 2020 class.

My progress, I am at 2600 throws logged and my Pro1 is way down to .09% and my Pro2 is also falling, down to 3.46%. Pro3 is up at 35.50% and SRR 5.91.

Any suggestions on how to get the Pro2 down?
One thing I am working on is the glued dice and keeping them together. I have noticed that my dice tend to rotate and fall around the axis, but they sometime travel in a different arc. If that makes sense.

Anyway, happy thanksgiving and I look forward to 2020.

Posted by: bminus1 on November 30, 2019, 12:44 am

Again, the non-passing Pro2 score (> 1%) is due to imperfect pitch control, i.e., one die is rotating 1 or 2 faces more than the other die resulting in a on-axis roll but single or double pitch 7 (2-5 or 3-4). As mentioned before, pitch control is more difficult to master than axis control and the more on axis rolls achieved, the more double pitches will occur. To reduce the number of double pitches (Pro3) and increase the number of primaries, good pitch control is required. In order to obtain good pitch control, the dice must rotate together at the same height in the same arc and hit flat on the layout in unison. This is easier said than done and requires lots and lots of PERFECT practice – not just practice. My advice is: practice making the dice rotate in unison at the same rotational speed and in the same identical arc and hitting flat on the layout together, bouncing straight into the back wall. It is difficult to master and, alas, many will give up before it is mastered. To paraphrase the Captain again, it is difficult, but if you persevere, it will be worth it.

Thank you for the feedback. You are exactly on point, I have good axis control but the double pitches are not good.
THe last few hundred rolls I switched from a 3 finger grip to a two finger grip and the flight of the dice are much better.

I have huge hands (3xl gloves) and it is difficult getting all three fingers lined up. the two finger grip is working much better.

THank you again for your words of wisdom and I will be taking advantage early enrollment in the 2020 seminars.

Awesome progress, great to hear that you are coming in 2020 to fix the finger grip issue.

Update:

Registered for the 2020 class and talked to the Master on the phone, he suggested a few practice pointers. I worked on them for a week and went to the casino last night. Crowded in CT, but found my SL1 spot and made it through all the PSO people to get the dice. I only threw on session and it was a 22 roll, double my bankroll and left.
My Smartcraps practice is progressing (3200 rolls, Pro1 is at .11%, Pro2 13.5%, Pro3 34% and SRR 5.91).
Dom gave me a few pointers and they worked fantastic. I am new to the dice game, less than a year, but it amazes me how easy the great players can diagnose my screwups. Just like any sport, if you listen to the masters, it will elevate your game.

I cant wait to get in front of the masters at the next seminar.
Thanks for all your help.

Posted by: CliffM1 on December 12, 2019, 3:28 pm

Update:
registered for the 2020 seminar and spent a few minutes talking about the importance of the grip with Dom.
Made adjustments and could see major changes after a few hundred throws.
Pro1 went from 0.11% down to 0.04%. Pro2 went from 13.5% down to 4.4%. Still need to work on Pro3 34% down to 30%.
Excited to see things moving in the right direction.

Question for the day.
SL1 is my preferred throwing spot, on my practice throws how far is it from SL1 to the back wall? ANd when I throw in practice is the distance measured from where I hold the dice, the middle of my stomach or where I release the dice?

Question two.
How high of an arc is ideal? I am trying to keep the dice at about shoulder height as the top of the arc.

Any suggestions are always appreciated.
I look forward to meeting everyone in 2020.

Finisher

Thank you for the information on the 45 post. After reading that valuable info, I did a search for Pendulum throw. I found some fantastic info on making sure I pendulum throw from the shoulder, not the elbow. I made that adjustment and the results were amazing. I added about 400 throws to my total, bringing it up to just over 3600 throws. My Pro1 score dropped from 0.04% to 0.00%.
Wanted to thank you and all the other people on this site that share their wisdom.
I am heading to the casino on Sunday and Monday to see what I can do. My goal is to win $2k before the 2020 seminar and let the casino pay for my trip.
Was up $300 last trip to the casino, $1700 to go.

Thanks again and I hope we can meet at the seminar.

Update

Went to the casino last night, threw 4 sessions, first 3 nothing exciting, but the last throw I made it to 31 throws. Very exciting and I put another $300 toward the 2020 seminar. I will be at the casino tonight, looking for another $300 towards the trip.
Thanks for all your help and have a happy holiday.

UPDATE

I just passed 4k rolls at 4074. PRO1 is down to 0.00% and finally got PRO2 down below 1% to .88%.
Still working on PRO3, which is at 17.5% and SRR is at 5.96.
Looking forward to seminar is 2020 to fine tune all aspects of my throw.
Thanks

Hello
Update time. I am very excited about my throw. I have been working on the GTC system and finally can see some results.
Like you guys told me, it takes about 5000 throws for it to show up. And it did. Pro1 is 0.00%, Pro2 is 0.33%, Pro3 is 9.13% and SRR is 6.00 and I am at 4600 throws.
Just like all the other athletic endeavors it went from uncomfortable to frustrating to OH this works.
It reminded me of golf, when someone tries to fix the swing. It produces awful results at first, then for awhile it is bad and frustrating. But if you keep on doing what the pro’s tell you, it shows up.

To update the seminar fund, I started with a bank roll of $500 about 2 months ago. My bankroll is now at $2200 and I have $700 set aside for the seminar fund.
So while I was working on my throw I went from $500 to $2900 in two months, NICE. I am looking forward to the 2020 seminar to get more pointers on this great game of craps and to meet some of the other GTC people.

THanks again for all the help and guidance.

UPDATES

Hit 5000 throws this weekend. Pro1 0.00%, Pro2 0.24%, Pro3 4.20% and SRR 6.14, Rolls 5001.
So excited about getting to seminar for adjustments.
My progress on the seminar fund, went to the casino on Friday started with $300 and cashed in $650. Bank roll up to $2500 and the seminar fund is up to $1,000.

SO excited to have found GTC and am so grateful for all the help from everyone on the site.
I look forward to meeting everyone in AC.
Thanks again.

FINALLY got all 3 PRo’s below 1%.
Pro1 0.00%, Pro2 0.33% and Pro3 is 0.97%, 5163 throws and an SRR of 6.26.
Can someone explain to me the Players edge and the Earnings per hour estimate.
The edge is 2.619 and Earnings per hour is $202.499.

Not to sure what these numbers mean.
Thanks for your help.

Posted by: Finisher on January 22, 2020, 1:51 am

Should do great in a casino with those results . With the right bets .
Good Rolling. 😀 🙂

Posted by: bminus1 on January 22, 2020, 3:19 am

CliffM1 asked about the edge and earnings per hour. The edge of 2.6 is the players advantage (because it is positive) in percent of the bet made. This is based on what bet is selected, i.e., pass line, don’t pass or place bet and at the free odds selected. The default is pass line with 1x odds. For a player edge of 2.6%, the player will AVERAGE winning 2.6% of the total bet wagered for each time the bet is resolved. For example, for a total bet (pass line flat bet plus free odds) of $100, the AVERAGE win per hand predicted is $2.60. The earnings per hour is the AVERAGE accumulated winnings estimated assuming the player is the only one rolling for one hour.
It should be noted that the edge and earnings are based on using the dice sets recommended by SmartCraps. Other sets can be evaluated by using the "Dice Set Optimizer" feature.

P.S. Passing all 3 Pro scores is quite an accomplishment. Congratulations!!!

UPDATE
Took the advice from a previous comment and deleted some of the old rolls. When I got to 5500 rolls I deleted the first 200 and now I am back to 5500.
It was amazing how big of an effect it had on my scores. The old rolls were not very good.
My Pro 1 score is 0.00%, Pro2 is 0.05% and Pro3 is 0.07% with 5541 throws and an SRR of 6.35.
I keep studying the DVD and pick up little things every time I watch it.
I have generally good days at the casino, meaning I leave with more money than I started with.
Question
On the shooter statistics under outcome summary it list the numbers 2 – 12 with occurrences, expected and Protest score as the heading.
For example for the 4 occurrence= 511 (more) expected = 460.08 and Protest score = 0.70%
What does the percentage mean? ALso for the Yo the occurrence is less than the expected 269/ 306 with score of 1.48%.
Looking at my numbers it look like I throw a lot of 4’s.
Any suggestions on how I should interpret this and how do I use this info at the tables?

Thanks again for the feedback and guidance.

Registered for the Vegas class in February and am very excited to take the next step.
I am at about 5700 throws, Pro1 is 0.00%, Pro2 0.12% and PRo3 is 0.06% with an SRR of 6.39.
I am happy to report that the CT casino has funded my entire Vegas class, plane, hotel, tuition and gambling money.
I started in MId NOvember with $300 and now I have just over $4,000.
Could not have done it without the great advice and guidance from everyone at GTC.

High Arc

I am a newbie at craps and don’t feel I am in any position to be giving advice.
My goal was to learn the best way to play without developing any bad habits.
With my limited experience, smartcraps helps me identify what I was doing wrong and adjust my grip and throw to "attempt" to fix it.
I will be attending the Vegas class and getting some real advice.
Thanks

UPDTE before Vegas trip.
Leaving for Vegas on Wednesday and wanted to post the progress from smartcraps.
On oct 7th the numbers were
Pro1 Pro2 Pro3 SRR
Oct7 16.32% 31.07% 28.26% 7.01
Feb17 0.00% 0.21% 0.01% 6.39

I want to thank all the GTCers for their help and advice.
I cant wait to meet everyone in Vegas and figure out how to get the SRR up.
As I approach the end of my first year of throwing dice, I am grateful for having found GTC and that everyone has been so gracious with their time and wisdom.

Thank you all

Looking for some help.
All my PRO#’s are below 1% by quite a bit. I have been removing old rolls as I make new ones.
My SRR is where the question is.
My SRR is currently .88% on 5060 rolls and the SRR number is 6.49.
Is it realistic for me to expect to reach a 10+ SRR?
The number does not appear to be rising very fast.
Thanks

First of all, your best source for SmartCraps information is Dan Pronovost, the owner and president of DeepNet Technologies, since he wrote SmartCraps. Fortunately, this forum has several articles written by Dan that explain the theory and uses of SmartCraps.. These articles can be found in the following link: https://www.goldentouchcraps.com/CrappyMath.shtml However, don’t be discouraged by all the probability math included in the articles, just read the introductions and summaries to get what all the math means to your craps abilities. I think you will learn that the SRR is a measure of dice influence ability, but that SmartCraps does much more than that, particularly if you have axis and pitch control that has been demonstrated by the Pro 1,2 and 3 scores.

The biggest advantage for me personally in using SmartCraps is providing the player edge that tells how much money I should earn at the casinos. This player edge is provided for pass/come bets, don’t come/don’t pass and place bets. Buy bets can be calculated from the place bet results. If you have little or no axis and pitch control, SmartCraps will predict a 4% player edge for a SRR of 6.5 (very much like your reported SRR of 6.49). Your SmartCraps Pro test scores indicate substantial axis and pitch control, therefore your player advantage should be a lot more than 4%. What does SmartCraps say your player edge is?

When you have substantial axis and pitch control as demonstrated by your SmartCraps Pro scores, the SRR is not as important. Also, as mentioned earlier, the SmartCraps edge is for the recommended dice sets, whereas, the SRR from SmartCraps is for the hardway set. The SRR will be different for other dice sets.

Your best source for SmartCraps information is Dan Pronovost, the owner and president of DeepNet Technologies, since he wrote SmartCraps.

I hope this helps in your quest.

bminus1,

Thank you for the link. I have been considering purchasing smart Craps. I thought it was the Canadian that developed it.
The thing that was holding me back is it sounded it like it was way smarter than me ! Having your help to explain the basics of it and a link for further information
has convinced me that this would be a worthwhile purchase. I manually calculated my first 5k rolls to get my SRR. Smart Craps sounds like it can help you identify a lot more than just your SRR .. I have all my past sheets with Left and Right die so I can easily input the data.

Again thanks.

My players edge is 3.8%.
Just starting to learn how this translates into my casino play.
After the class I now know the come bet with 2x odds brings the HA down to .61%
So, that puts me at about a positive 3.2%.
Thanks for your help, will keep on working.

CliffM1

Please be advised that the player advantage is calculated for the dice sets recommended and there are different advantages and dice sets for the don’t pass/don’t come as well as place bets. Also, the results are for a 95% confidence level and have been degraded accordingly. The degradation is intended to take into account playing in a casino environment as opposed to the quiet, undistracted practice on your home rig/table. SmartCraps can be used to evaluate dice sets other than the recommended sets by using the "Dice Set Optimizer" feature. This is useful for comparing dice sets.

SmartCraps already takes into account the HA for the bet selected , therefore, your 95% confidence advantage is 3.8% for the bet selected (the default is pass/ come with 1x odds).

UPDATE March 2020
I have reached 7,000 recorded throws.
Pro1 is at 0.00%, Pro2 is at 0.36% and Pro3 is at 0.02% with an SRR of 6.44.

Since returning from the Vegas class I have noticed a significant improvement to my throw.
I have recorded 720 throws since Vegas and my SRR is starting to move, it is at 6.97 for the 720 throws.
And my last 167 throws after the recorded 720, SRR has jumped to 7.23.

My live casino throws have been OK, had one 36 roll on 3/1, but generally in the high teens. Which is fine with me.
I am able to make money while I wait for the monster to show up.

Thanks to all the GTCers who helped me in Vegas, I am looking forward to AC in May.
Also, any suggestions on how to best get your wife involved in craps?
Looking for stories of couples that play together.

Hello GTC

Going to try and post an update on my smartcraps adventure.

As of April 15th I have 9,340 recorded throws.

I attended the vegas class in February and have recorded about 3,000 rolls since returning.

My Pro1 score is 0.03%

     PRo2 is 0.90%

    Pro3 is 0.01%

And my SRR is 6.50.

Since the class the pro3 score has gone way down, the double pitches, but the Pro2 has gone up.

My SRR has improved over the last 3000 rolls, but I am not tracking it.

Hope everyone is safe.

I will be trying to record my throws with a GoPro I got recently.  I am sure it will be a circus.

@cliffm1,

Are you still recording as the same user?  What I like to do after a major event, such as a class taken, a milestone achieved, or something I notice where I believe that I’ve reached another goal/plateau, is to create a new user.  Within the Roll Recorder, I have a user for each position I practice at, as well as a dated grouping of throws.  My current primary user is “Don SL2 2020_0101-“.  When I create a new user, I change the old name with the completion date. (I practice SL2 on my table as my primary venue has 14′ tables, where I can effectively get the same position that I practice from and no closer).

As you continue on your journey, it’s good to see where you are since something major happened.  You’ve noted groupings of shots, like you’re now at 9k, and your SRR is at 6.x, but is that since your first throw?  If you group since your last class, has your scoring changed, etc.  You can omit rolls, and that will work as well, but my preference is to create new users.   Just a thought.

Keep up the great progress!!!  It’s a great journey!

Hardnine

The 9000 is from the start of my throwing.  I was planning on hitting 10k then I will take your advice and start a new user.  Is there a way to enter a throw and have it automatically fill in under two different users?

I just got a gopro camera and I am going to try and video my throws to work on my mechanics.  Do you have any suggestions on how to use the video to work on throwing?  ANy tips or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.  I have to learn how to turn it on first, but hopefully I will progress quickly with my video tapping.

Hope you and your family are safe and if you hear of any GTC get together in the New England area drop me a note.

Thanks for all your help

@cliffm1,

I don’t believe that there’s a way to record to two names at once.  There’s always the option of marking older sessions to not be included.

I assume that you’ve taken a class?  When looking at your video, recall all of the comments that your coaches told you, included in notes, etc.  If you were at a class, you may have seen NFF, BTK, and Midnight doing the Video Elite.  They have a camera at both ends so that you can see each roll from two angles, etc.  But a single camera from the receiving end is the most valuable of the two if you had to choose.  Be sure that you’re well lit.  iPhones pick up slo mo, very well.  Watch your fingers on release, try to get the camera to zoom, there’s a lot in those frames to watch for, fingers, wrist, grip, etc.

I HIGHLY recommend doing a Video Elite.  I did one with my second Refresher and my Advanced.  Absolutely invaluable!!!  Doing a VE at the same time as a class, especially when your coach is the same in both, really supercharges the value gained in the whole weekend.

There are quite a few GTC folks in the New England area.  PM me for a couple of names, don’t know if they’re still on the forum.  I’m in Chicago, but head to AC to shoot with the GTC family, and cruises that many join in on.

Keep up on the Journey!

I was in the Vegas primer class in Feb of 2020,  a few weeks before the world went nuts.

I had put a deposit on the AC class in May, but that may not happen.  I will take the next available refresher class and get a video done at that time.  Thanks for the advice.

I have never used a Gopro so any advice is greatly appreciated.  Given the current circumstances, I have plenty of time to get the hang of it.

will PM you my contact info.

Thanks

Hi Cliff

Yes the AC class will be cancelled and an email is going out probably next week. Your deposit is good for ever! Please email me at dom@goldentouchcraps.com so I can make a record

Also, we don’t suggest doing the video elite if you are taking our primer class for the first time. It would be over kill

I figured out how to copy and paste my throws.  The first one is my running totals (Cliff M) and the second one is my throws for the month of May.  My SRR went from 6.55 in the month of April to 7.94 for the month of May.  Thanks DOM for the help.  I count all 7’s no matter when they are thrown.

Looking forward to taking the throw to a casino and see what we get.

Jack

Sorry I may have not put it right.  The CliffM is the total of all my rolls.  Every time I record a throwing session I put the results in this file.  Then I enter the results in a separate file CliffM May2020, or whatever the month is.

This way I can work on some part of my throw and see what the results are month to month.  Like from april to may I focused on my finger placement and alignment of my grip.  After watching a video of my throw that is where I needed work.  The April rolls are not in the above posting.

My plan for June is to keep the grip good and work on making sure the release is on track.

Will keep you updated.

Has anyone been to a casino yet?

Stay safe and I look forward to the next seminar.

UPDATE

I had some computer issues and lost all my 11,000 rolls.  I have paper copies, but am not really interested in inputting them all.  I entered all my rolls for the month of June 2020 so far.

In a previous post on the 11k rolls all 3 pro numbers were below 1% and an SRR of 6.57.

I have around 900 rolls so far in June and Pro1&2 are high but Pro3 is way down and SRR is up.

For 912 rolls SRR comes in at 8.22

I had to combine each page of written rolls into one big roll that is why it is only showing 11 as roll sets in pro test.

Players edge has gone up also, with 5x odds-

Potential player edge: 8.581033%

I am looking forward to more casino time in the northeast.

Thanks and good rolling

I have been to the casino twice since opening.  The first time was just to see what is at the two CT casinos.  One good one bad for GTC.  The second time I did ok.  No matter how much you practice it is still different once you get into a live casino.  I think the $25 minimum as opposed to the $5 tables is going to affect my game also.  I 5 count everyone and then on other shooters I do one come with 2x odds. If none hit with the other 5 shooters that is $475 lost.  Last trip I started with a $500 bankroll and played for 3 hours and left with $200, on a $25 table.  Most of the table was down $2k to $3k.  THe guy next to me asked why I don’t bet the YO and world bets or put insurance on the all 7’s.  I said we have been at the table the same time and I am down $125 and your down 4 grand.  YOu do what you do and I will do what I do.  I am noticing the 5 count really is important on the high minimums.  Not that it isn’t on the $5 tables, but at $25 a few bad bets can really hurt my bankroll.

Stay safe Jack and I have a wedding in Laughlin in October – hope things are semi-normal.

Posted by: BigCasino on June 25, 2020, 12:00 pm

Cliff,

No heat for practicing the 5 count. I figured with the long line of suckers waiting to get on a table the casino’s might give the smarter player a hassle.   6 players down 3k  is better than 5 players down 3k..    Goes to show the importance of the 5 count.  I guess I better start practicing with chips as a 25$ player.  Not use to those high stake games.  Thanks for the trip report!

Posted by: CliffM1 on June 25, 2020, 12:38 pm

Jack

I have never gotten heat from any of the crews out here.  I tip really well.  On a $25 table I generally add $1 to my bets for the dealer.  This way they get to broadcast it to the rest of the table and get some of the stiffs to loosen up.  When I throw I put $1 on the Passline and will put odds for the dealer.  If I hit a few numbers I will put $1 on all the box numbers for dealers.  They keep an eye on me when I play, like making sure I put odds on my come bet, etc.  Just my way of doing things.

The double pitch was due to my grip and toss.  I did a video and was amazed at how out of whack everything was.  A few adjustments made a major difference.  In the month of June my SRR went from around 6.5 to 8.22.  I look forward to heading out west and hitting some casinos with you soon.

Stay safe

Posted by: CliffM1 on June 27, 2020, 2:12 pm

Hello again it’s me.  Sorry for all the post but I am bored out of my mind.

Trying to use this time to improve my game.

Due to my computer glitch I lost the 11k roll file, but all my PRO #’s were well below .5%.  I started a new roll for the month of June, at 1006 recorded rolls.  Pro1&2 are in the 20% but pro3 is 0.00% and SRR is 8.31.  I worked on my grip and toss extensively in June and with the help of GTC wizards it is showing up.

My question:  In the class Dom talked about never making a bet you don’t have the skills to overcome the house edge.  This is what the smartcraps program has on my players edge:

Bet type: pass (5 odds)
Potential player edge: 9.929679%
Optimal dice sets:
– Come out roll: T1F3/T6F4 (don’t 68)
– 4/10 points: T1F3/T1F3
– 5/9 points: T2F4/T2F4 (hardway)
– 6/8 points: T2F4/T2F4 (hardway)

Does the players edge (9.9%) and the house edge % in my class book is how I determine the bets I can overcome?  E.G.  placing the 5/9 has house edge of 4% my edge is 9.9%, that would be a good bet?

Also, I am a come better with at least 2x odds now that the tables are up on minimum bets, usually a 5x odds on lower limits.   Would you suggest any other betting strategies to take advantage of my players edge?

I am very happy being a conservative come better and winning, just wondering if I should adjust my betting to take advantage of any edge I have with my throw.

Thanks for any input and hopefully I can get back to the casinos soon and burn some energy off.

Stay safe

Posted by: Dominator on June 27, 2020, 2:58 pm

Ok first – yes you can overcome the House Edge of the 5/9 and make 5% on your money but why place it when as a come player with 2X odds the house edge is only .61% and you can make 9% on your money!

No other betting strategies!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

be a come player!

I have been practicing with chips at home and cant wait to get to a casino on a regular basis.  I think the higher limits may actually be a good thing.  Even at home practicing I am more focused on every shot when more money is on the table.

Thanks again for your help.

Re: the broadcasting, when they thank me for a bet on top of a 6 or 8, I like to say “Hey, you do the hard work and it’s National Dealer Tipping Day!!!”  They repeat it a few times… rarely works but always worth a try!

June tally is in.  1157 throws recorded.  Been working on my grip and the double pitches have gone way down and SRR has gone way up.  Potential players edge has gone up also (11.87%).  I am happy with the progress so far and am looking forward to attending another class soon.

Looking to pick the brains again – this time it’s pointers on reading the table.

I am new to the craps game (less than 2 yrs) went to primer class in Feb and have been working on my grip, throw, etc.  I am comfortable, not satisfied, with all the basics.  My home casino is the preferred casino in CT.  Last week I threw 5 times, one 4 and out – a 38 throw hand – and the other 3 were in the high teens and low 20’s.  I am starting to feel I am bringing more skill to the table than luck.  Still a long way to go but I feel I am making progress.

I am trying to get a idea on how you read a table.

How do you determine if it is bouncey or hard?

How do you determine if you need to land farther from the back wall or closer?

How do you determine if you need to have a lower arc on the shot?

Do you add more or less rotation on different surfaces?

Is there any postings that rate the tables at various casinos?

As always your wisdom and guidance is always appreciated.

Thanks for all the GTC help.

Here you go

I am trying to get a idea on how you read a table.

How do you determine if it is bouncy or hard?

That should be easy – if you can’t hear the dice hitting the table, or when they do hit the fly up, you are on a bouncy table

How do you determine if you need to land farther from the back wall or closer?

If the table is bouncy you want to land further back

How do you determine if you need to have a lower arc on the shot?

If the table is bouncy you want to have a lower arc

Do you add more or less rotation on different surfaces?

Do not play with this now. It is too early in your skill

Thanks for the help.

I went to the CT casino in the sun last night.  $25 tables, not as crowded as usual for a Saturday.

I threw a total of 9 times.  Two throws 25+, Two throws under 6, and the other 5 were all in the mid teens.  I started with $500 and ended with $700.  5 counted all the other players and it helped to preserve my bankroll.

The best part of the night, out of the 9 seven outs for the night only one was a double pitch (2/5) all the rest were 1/6.  I have been doing better in practice with the double pitches.

All in all a good night, left with more than I came with.  I am feeling more comfortable with the routine: set up, grip, release, follow through, etc.

Thanks again for your help.  Hope to see you at a class soon.

@cliffm1, AWESOME shooting!  And your patience on the 5 count is commendable!  It’s hard to do at times, but when you see the rewards, it’s a great thing!!!

Keep up the good shooting.

5 count, if I get any feelings that the crew is getting upset with my waiting, I throw a $5 chip out and put the dealers on the even numbers high on the 10.  For 5 bucks it keeps them off my case and they leave me alone.

Have you played any casinos since the lockdown?

I am in the CT woods area and when they first opened it was very difficult to get on a table.  Waited 2 hours for a spot to open and it was in the hook.  You had to wait for SL1.5 to open and move down.  THis weekend it was not as crowded, there were more tables opened than the initial opening and I was able to get SL1.5 pretty quickly.  I think the higher table limits help, most players dont hang around too long.

Anyway, stay safe and I hope we can get to a class soon.  I will be signing up for the next AC class, whenever that is.

Posted by: HardNine on July 13, 2020, 9:38 pm

@cliffm1

Yes, have done ~ 6 sessions; 2 in NC, 2 in IN, 2 in IL.  Only had to truly wait in IN for about 20 minutes and luckily got my spot for the number that was called.  Have also had to take a secondary position before getting to my prime, but never for long.  Thought the minimums would impact, but last week, hit an IL casino with 1 table open, before I shot, they raised to $25 and it stayed full (6) almost the whole time I was there.

I believe the next AC class is Oct 16-18.

TRIP REPORT

Went to the casino in the sun in beautiful CT last night.  Less crowded than usual and there were 6 tables open 4 @ $25 and two @ $15.

Got onto my SL1.5 spot right away on a $25 table.  First throw 22, second throw 28 and third throw 4.  Started with $400 and cashed out just over $900.  Was lucky to get on a table with another shooter and the other 4 people were passing the dice to me and him.  More than doubled my buy in so I took a walk.

When I came back my spot was open on the $15 table.  This table was way more bouncy than the first one I was on.  First throw was a 4, second 7 and third 25.  Took me a few throws to get dialed in, but by the end it was going good.  Started with $400 and cashed out $850.  Total for the night was up about $950.

Both tables had another shooter that was doing well.  It is much more fun to be on a table with others that can shoot.  Usually they are mostly random throwers and even with the 5 count my bankroll takes a hit as the dice move around the table.  Each time I get more confident with my throwing routine.  Cant wait to get to another class and take it up a notch.

Thanks

Another trip to the casino in the SUN.

A quick in and out today.  Had my wife with me and it is the law of diminishing returns.  The longer I play and win the longer she shops and spends.

When I got there SL1.5 was open on the bouncy table.  This table give me problems.  I did ok at it on Wednesday but it takes a while for me to get dialed in.  I threw 2 times and got nothing.  Then the table I like opened up and I got on SL1.5.

My first throw was bad and another shooter at the table had a good throw.  My second throw was a good one, 27 throws.  I left up $1400 on a $400 buy in.

The table minimums are $25 and $50 on the weekends and $15 and $25 on weekdays.  I think the higher  minimums are not as bad as I thought they would be.  I stick with the 5 count, I do catch the good shooters and avoid the randoms.  On the $5 tables a good 27 roll would only have gotten me $500 or $600 instead of $1400.  But I guess the reverse is true also, a few bad rolls and bankroll is done.

Anyway it is good to be able to get back to the tables.

Thanks again

Right on!

Posted by: CliffM1 on July 19, 2020, 4:06 pm

CT casino again today for triple status points.

Only threw the dice twice, first for 27 throws and second for 18.  Started with $400 and cashed in $1,450.  Finally figured out the bouncy table today.  There where 2 other decent shooters at the table and I made a few dollars on their rolls.

Maybe its just me but there was one guy at the table when I got ready to shoot, I do my same routine.  He gave a big sigh and said another one of those dice setting guys.  And he proceeded to play the Don’t.  And I proceeded to throw 5 eights in a row.  And he stormed away swearing.  That is almost as much fun as winning money, ALMOST.

Thanks again GTC for teaching me the dice game.  Its a blast.

Cliff It makes me think back when I was showing my uncle craps just before we went to casino . I did a short lesson with him . When we got there he played on the other side of were I was and that way he could play his game . Well he started off on the pass line bets . but after a few losses he went to dark side . By the time I got the dice he was hooked . So he played it . I ended with a good roll but not great . He stayed till he decided to just not bet on me . I thought it was funny when he told his wife what happened . All she could say was you did WHAT you did not bet on Alan . You lost ALL that you won Da ,Da both are Italians so you get the grift to say the least . Now he was a MATH guy with many degrees .

Some learn and some don’t

Good Rolling..

Finisher

I dont care if someone plays the dark side when I shoot.  They usually switch, but if not thats ok.

Its when I get the oh its one of those guys, that gets me focused in on my routine and shut them up.

I have been working on my double pitches and today I threw a total of 45 times.  Had one come out seven (1/6), Then to end the 27 roll I had a 2/5 and the 18 roll was a 1/6.  Of the 45 throws only one double pitch.

  • Pro 3 Test:

  • Double pitches
  • # of failures: 134 (less is good)
  • Expected # of failures: 204.25
  • Pro test score: 0.00%

This is from my last 1800 throws in the smartcraps program.  Dom was kind enough to give me a few suggestions on my grip and delivery.  Obviously when the master talks and you listen, it works.

Thanks again DOM

Update on above numbers.

The PRo1 number is way off, but the Pro3 is down to nothing and SRR is moving in the right direction.  The players edge for the total and the month of July are in double digits.  Trying to get more casino time to work on reading the tables.  Thursday night I had a 38 roll hand and another 4 hands of crap.  I am getting more comfortable with the throw and looking forward to the next Class.

Thanks
