Throw vs Toss

Spread the love

This past week while I was practicing my dice mechanics I noticed that my throw was a little too hard. As we all know it should be soft. I tried to think of another word to replace throw. So I started to use the word "Toss". In my mind "Throw" seemed more aggressive, therefore causing me to let the dice fly harder. While "Toss" causes me to let the dice fly a lot softer to the landing area. We throw the baseball or football. Both are aggressive forms of a throw. In the dictionary the definition is almost similar. Throw: send through the air from the hand. Toss: throw lightly in the air from the hand. I went to the casino Wednesday as I got the dice the first time, I said to myself a couple of times "toss" the dice softly. On that toss I felt the word go from my mind down to my arm and It worked. By the way I’m not nuts if that’s what you are thinking LOL. Most of my tosses were soft. I did well that evening. In my mind this worked for me. I’m not trying change words that have been used for a long time in the game of craps. It might or might not work for others. I’m not sure if anybody else has had this same subconscious mind game.

Your are correct. You do not want to throw the dice hard as it is not necessary. Remember the dice do not weight very much and your are only throwing them a very short distance, so TOSS is a very good way to grind into your brain what you want to do. The way that Doc and Rose get a very light toss is to make the back swing very slow and keep it slow through the forward swing reaching out with only our arm so that the light grip will allow the dice to gentle roll off our finger tips give the dice a slight back spin (hopefully) keeping the dice together. Usually the dice do not roll all over the place. Hope that will help you some. Keep up the good work. Hope to wee you at a class weekend in the near future.

It’s very simple the quality of your toss will dictate the degree of difficulty of a table you can deal with!
