It is different when you get to the table than it is when your using the practice set. You might be nervous; hand may not be as steady. Would it be good to go to the table while learning betting minimum amounts as a learning experience while your still developing your game?

Part of your practice routine should be betting with chips. This way the presses that you will do live will become muscle memory as well. After a practice session, by in for $300 or any amount you want and give yourself 3 or 4 turns with the dice and see if you lost or won.

And yes, the first few times you do this live you think all eyes are on you. Your hand might even shake. It has happened to all of us.

A lot of people are talking about practicing on an empty table. I was not talking about practicing on an empty table. I was talking about playing for minimal amounts so I wouldn’t lose too much and maybe even win a little and using the actual play as practice and getting comfortable with the live play.

Hello Busman3845,

Glad you were able to get on the website.

Whenever we suggest you practice it is at your home. In other words, practice at home with chips before going to the casino. When you go to the casino for the first time don’t play with max odds. Play with low odds to get the rhythm of how to play in the casino with chips. You’re right, go easy or light on the betting at first. Once you’ve practiced with more odds at home then increase your odds in the casino. (This depends on your bankroll but fewer come bets with larger odds is the way to go!) Doc and I always "get a feel for the table" if we’ve just started our trip. We watch how the dice react when others are shooting before we go up to a table; what color are the dice? is it bouncy? etc.

For everyone — no one should try to practice at an empty table in a casino.

Hi Busman,

I probably practice more sessions at home then I do live sessions I practice my betting process at home over and over again so its second nature in live play.. Eventually you will get use to the live play but I have to admit the live play you will get so many things that will mess with your mental focus. Over time you will over come it. Read some of the old posts we talk about them in our trip reports… Thanks for posting you are not alone when it comes to being a little nervous at the table. I have my apple watch on and it registers a rapid beat when I have my full spread for my hand exposed and I am looking to start getting my hits.

Regards,
MR. PiP

Well please excuse me for saying this – but practice at the casino in live play? You have got to be kidding me! Regardless of how low the stakes are, putting hard earned money on the line just to practice is something that I think is just crazy! NO WAY can you practice in a casino. There are so many reasons that I think are obvious that I won’t get into them.

WOW!

As the first student, with my husband, Sandtrap, we practiced solidly the first six months at home. Then we took a refresher class. We didn’t go to a casino for a year, and even then I was nervous (more so than my husband). However, after practicing diligently every day, we started to make more trips, and I became less anxious as the practice paid off, and I began to show a profit. Patience and practice will get you there.
